Truck! No Wheels!

Thanks guys for most of your comments. The dealer is trying to work with me so I will post the outcome in a day or so. They are now saying it might take two weeks so they are going to attempt to put some temporary tires and wheels on it, off the Parts Dept display. They will only use 22s since the truck is set up for 22s, and that makes the options less. I just don't want my truck setting in the dealer lot for two weeks waiting on wheels I should have had yesterday!

roll the 20s for a few weeks and let us know how the 22s ride in comparison. 18s, 20s, 22s oem are all about the same overall diameter. Just less side wall as you go up in size. thus ride suffers some as u move up.

So OJ does this mean your dealer never ordered the wheels and now they are rushing

Yes, that is what it sounds like to me. They said the wheels were automatically shipped to coincide with vehicle delivery. I honestly don't know who is responsible, but if the dealer is the one responsible, they are not fessing up.

There are no 20s involved. The truck was shipped with 22 steelies (temporary for shipping purposes only). The dealer is talking about temporarliy putting some 22s on so I can take delivery. The 22s are currently on display in the parts department.

no it does not. dealer has no control over when wheels or trucks get shipped.

OJ,

Glad to see things are coming to an end for your purchase. Mine is still in transit. When I went by my dealership last night, they had a white denali in the back. Thinking it was mine, I checked the VIN, and it began with a 272. Now how does a later VIN'd truck show up before mine?

I wish you lived closer, my current denali has a set of Escalade platinum 22's on it. Would love to have loaned you those.

They are bull shitting you. The dealer is responsible for ordering the wheels. I went through the same thing 2 months ago when I picked up my truck...

THANK YOU Will!!! I sincerely appreciate the gesture. That should would have relieved a lot of additional stress. I spent most of the day yesterday, hanging out at the dealership waiting for my truck to arrive. GMC Customer Support said it had an EDD of Nov.6...that didn't happen. It is bayed at the rail yard waiting for truck transport. I'll probably go back to the dealership today. As I have posted in another thread, they are going to put some 22s they have on display in the parts department on it until they receive my 22s. At least I will be able to roll once they complete the PDI.

Will, I don't understand either how a later VIN can show up first, but I have seen it before. It's all a matter of timing I guess. Some might get held up for a minor QC issue, or as in Corvettes, they randomly select one to do a road test on factory track, meanwhile others come off the line and go straight to awaiting truck transport. Good luck with yours and mnay thanks for the offer of the wheel loan. Damn, what a forum this is!

I don't know! I understand fully what you are saying. However, read post #22 in this thread? That's the guy who actually ordered my truck and orders all the vehicles for my dealership. He is one of the most stand up guys I ever met in the car business. I don't like the fact that my wheels aren't here waiting for my truck to arrive, but I do trust Nick when he says they have no control over wheel shipments when they are part of a vehicle order.

Correct me if Im wrong but I doubt your truck is set up for 22s. I would think you could take any model and put 17's to 22s on them.

They say it is "tuned" for 22s, the suspension, odometer, etc, all of it is set up for 22s only. I'm not sure of all the details, but the dealer will not even consider anything but 22s.

I guess your right the ODO and such is probably calibrated and the suspension is probably tuned for optimal handling and such. You still could put any just about any smaller wheel on that it would work fine for the time being, and any truck can in their line up can take 22s, thats easy. But from their stand point they probably dont want to start getting into warranty issues if something were to break

Yes, they mentioned the "warranty" issues. That was also one reason they didn't want me driving it off the lot with the "steelies" on it, even just around town. I already have appointments to get my radar detector hard wired, exhaust system customized, and get the windows tinted, an Undercover bed cover and bed rug installed. I want to get all that done in the first 48 hours of ownership. That is one reason I wanted some wheels, that and the fact I just plum ran out of patience!
