LIGHTS

This may have been covered before and If It has well  :uhoh:

Does anyone know how to keep the DRL's on when your headlights come on?  After installing my Amber DRL's I got to thinking that they would look really cool with my park lights.  So does anyone make a harnes or kit that keeps the DRL's on all the time?

How much extra current would this draw with all 4 headlights on, marker lights, and DRL;s?

Thanks for the 411

I would think you could do it but I don't know how.  If you want to see what it looks like manually turn your lights on during the day and the DRL's will stay on along with the lights.  Just look at your reflection on somebodies talegate or pull up to a large window to see what it looks like. :uhoh:

Hummmm,

I've done the 4 hi beam conversion, and it wasn't all that difficult.

You'd just have to add a relay to the headlight circuit for when they come on, to allow for power, or ground (which ever one you can use) to initialize the drl circuit.

I might have to look at this myself.

uh.. not on my truck.  the DRL go out when I turn on my headlights during the daylight.

As the DRLs are most likely a pretty low draw on the electrical system and wireing. How about if you  run a jumper wire from the parking lights to the DLRs. Would this work? Is it too Mickey Mouse? Just a thought.  ???

When the DRLs have no power going to them they would get power from the parking lights. When the DRLs are on they would'nt be getting power from the parking lights. DLRs on all the time. ???  ??? Would it work if you used diode's in the "jumper" circut to keep voltage from backing up into the other when the one power source is not feeding power? ???

I'm almost 100% positive that my DRL's stay on if I only have my parking lights turned on during the daytime (when the truck is in gear)

If you would want your DRL on when your headlights are turned on, all you have to do is setup a relay.  Use the voltage that powers your headlights to trigger the relay so it will pass power to the DRL's.  Very similar setup to the 4 headlight conversion I think.

I would like to do both these conversions, they sound cool. Has anyone else done them that has pics of how or more detailed description??

I like lots of lights, like a christmas tree on wheels!! My old Jeep that had lights all over it. I always loved it when I saw someone flip the switch on their rear view. :uhoh:

:D  :(

My old Ford was notorius for making people hit the switch on the rearview mirror, the lights where just the right highth that it was a cockpit lighter..  :uhoh:

I will agree with cyrylyn.....  When it's daylight outside and I kick on my park lights DRL's go off....  Maybe there is a difference in behavior between a GMC and a Chevrolet?

While on the subject of lights...........

Has anybody found a way to disable the overhead dome light without disabling the lights on the floor board?  If you hit the dome overide button it kicks them all out.... I want a way to kick out the overhead and still have the floor lights on....

I'm a light freek also :D   I guess this comes from the Over the road trucking in me.......... :thumb:   Truckers love LIGHTS.............

If you ran that "jumper wire" from the drls to the parking lights, wouldnt they light up when the drls are on? I think I would like to do this less mickey mouse.

I did a similar thing to mine by running a jumper wire from the fog lights to the DRL's which caused the DRL's to run whenever I turn the fogs on.  I had no problems with that set-up.  Of course, I had my DRL's disconnected so that they did not come on during the day and so there were no backfeed problems.  If they were not disconnected I suppose that the fogs would run during the day also.  Along the same lines, I am pretty sure that if you ran a jumper from your parking lamps to your DRL's then your parking lights would run whenever your DRL's are on.

Someone in an old thread recommended at Kennedy Headlamp Harness Kit, but it does not look like this is what it does. I am wanting to do this like tonight. It would be too cool. :D

So city...... Did you get your self all hooked up?

Or are you still looking for a kit......  I think the munged way with Diodes and wires works,  However, one of my buddies in the GTP club was telling me how he disabled his DRL's and I think I could use something like that to make them come on all the time....
