turning on my 2014 Sierra, engine rumble

Lately I've noticed that my truck sometimes hesitates to turn over. It turns on but it doesn't sound or feel right while its doing it. I can hear/feel the engine forcing it self to turn over. It does this randomly and not often. None of my other trucks have done this. Has anyone else had this issue?

More detail.... Is it like a weak sounding starter or like a low battery that seems like it is on its last life line and "chugs" the engine over slower than normal? Is it extremely cold where you are? Anything making odd noises while running or lack of power etc?

You mention the truck is forcing itself to turn over. If you notice, the newer vehicles don't require you to hold the key in the start position for start. Only need to flick the key to start, release and the engine starts itself. The computer must control the starter solenoid now.

Hey manzano,

I can understand your concern on why you would be concerned if your vehicle is behaving this way. Have you brought up this concern to your dealership? If you would like us to investigate this concern further feel free to PM me your name and contact information, VIN, current mileage, and involved dealership.

Sincerely,

Jonathan A.

I think you are just not used to the direct injection. On cold starts its going to sound like the motor takes longer to start up. Because the fuel rail has to pressurize. On warm starts it'll seem like the truck fires right up with no problem.

If thats what you are experiencing, it is normal and nothing to worry about. Its a common occurance with direct injection motors, which are new for our motors this year.

My 2014 5.3 Silverado has an extended crank time before it starts too, Only notice it after been sitting all day or all night. But my wife's 2010 Equinox 3.0 V6 also has direct injection but NEVER has had an extended crank time. My saleman told me the trucks do not have a fuel pump in tank, it just uses the mechanical pump but I think the Equinox has an electric pump in tank.
