Cancelled my '14 Denali Order

I owned two Ram's before I bought my Silverado, and I'm a member of several Ram forums. There are tons of problems posted up just like here. You should have seen the Ram forums when the redesigned 2009 Ram came out, anything you could think of there was multiple threads about it with tons of problems and people pissed that they paid so much money only to have problems. Right now there are problems with the new 8 speed trans, and big time problems with the 8.4AN radio. Lots of electrical problems and threads where people are regretting their purchase. There were a lot of little things on my 2012 Ram that drove me nuts. There was a constant dash rattle that the dealer couldn't fix, the seat was collapsing, and it felt like a pile of tin cans when you hit a substantial bump or ran over some rough road. The whole truck would shake and make some awful noises, it felt like it was flexing a lot. I test drove a Laramie Longhorn 8 speed Hemi, then I test drove several 2014 Silverados. The Silverado flat out drove better and felt a lot more solid behind the wheel, hard to describe but easy to notice when you live in the middle of a construction zone in PA. I've had mine since July and it definitely feels like a better built truck then my Ram did. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

I have a friend with a 2011 dodge ram that is having the box sides replaced by the dealer. He had a blister above the wheel well. When he looked closer at it, he found there was a hole in the metal already. There is no way any vehicle should rust through that quick. The thing also clunks when he lets off the gas. He said this is his first and last dodge. He bought it because it was a better price than GM. He's paying for it now.

My 06 Ram had the rear bumper replaced under warranty in 08 due to rust. The 2014 and up GM trucks use galvanized steel for the bodywork (besides the hood) like the old Porsche's. Should help those of us that live in the rust belt.

That's why I had two in a row plus a Dakota before that. They were always the cheapest option, plus I didn't like the 07-13 GM trucks. It feels good to be back in a Chevy.

I guess there are pros and cons to everything. The issue with the current production runs of the Sierras / Silverados is that the engineers have to identify the problems, then create solutions, then implement those solutions at production level.

 

That's one reason I feel safer buying a Ram, they've been tweaking it for quite a while now. Again, NOTHING against GMC...and I truly wish that these problems didn't exist so I could feel okay getting that Denali :/

I saw a ram a few weeks ago..... wasn't more than 3 years old ......total bottom of the tailgate was rusted out. And this is in the south... Couldn't believe it

This thread makes me laugh.... I almost bought a Ram today, but came home with a GMC. I really wanted a Ram, but after speeding a great deal of time crawling around in both, I feel the GMC is the better vehicle. The GMC may have some bugs to work out, but I feel that it will be better than the Ram.

To your #2 - depends on which Ram you looked at? If you compare their sport model to the all terrain sierra...they're on par, although I do find the sierra transmission to shift a little hard and the 5.3 not to have the same kick as the 5.7 Hemi.

 

I did compare a lot and that's why I bought the High Country - it was nicer in many ways. The Ram was sweet, but every time I drove the Chevy's I liked it better. The Bose blew the Alpine away - it wasn't even close on that comparison. They can keep the knob dial gear shift and I didn't care for the air suspension and 3.27 RE that comes with the 8-speed. They were so proud of the 3.27 they don't even list it on the window sticker.

 

After I drove them all a bunch I got the one I liked the best. I couldn't imagine ordering the one I liked the best and then changing my mind and getting my 2nd choice. Odd

lol indeed. I do like the knob dial and the 3.21 gear ratios do suck. So I'm looking at 3.92. High country is one sweet truck tho!

That's why I would be very hesitant on a new vehicle build if I were to buy. Give it a year or two to work out most of the bugs and issues.

I told the dealer today that I'm considering canceling and he went nuts trying to get me to keep the order. As much as i love the truck and I truly do...I know deep down once these issues happen to me, it would drive my OCD through the roof.

 

From what I gather, the dealers will refund the deposit without any issues.

 

I know this is a GM forum and I totally respect that but if you hop over to the Ram Forums, they don't really have that many issues and I can tell you from my research that the Ram trucks are the best bang for the buck.

 

Their 8 speed transmission is the same used on a Rolls Royce and the leather used in the Limited models is the same used by Ferrari. I think Ram did it smart, just outsourced to the best. The navigation / screen is done by Garmin.

 

Anyhow, I'll still keep participating here and enjoying the forum as I think it's really great.

Did you miss the recall on the Ram 8 speed!!!

The Ram 8 speed is a ZF design same as several others including Audi. The ZF design is reportedly good, more important may be who is building them.

Yeah that tranny is used in the rolls royce, it's rock solid - and yeah, depends on who's building them.
