Buying a used truck with powertrain warranty prior mods

Thinking about this today If you bought a used truck and had a powertrain failure and they found evidence of a tuner where would you stand?

Who did you buy from would be the first question

Private party sale should be as-is

Dealer depends

Just in general I was thinking about that today it's not something you would check buying a truck but the dealers sure like to blame mods to void warranty

You'd probably have a leg to stand on buying from a GM dealer and especially a certified used but other than that who knows but I guess the thing to remember would be that they would have to prove the tune caused the damage anyways

asked my advisor for the hell of it today when he called to confirm my appt.... He said GM will randomly ask for a download of ecm info he has been there 10 years and it happened once

I had this thought as my truck came already tuned from the last owner. Only reason i knew this is because i pulled the "stock" file only to find that things had been changed. I have the remaining warranty on the truck (only 31k miles) plus i was given an extended powertrain warranty.

How would this work if i brought the truck in for anything? Do they always scan the ecm no matter what even if GM doesnt request information? How can i prove that the truck was tuned prior to me owning it?
