How to program master key if original is lost

I have the original key just one but the other day I went to go to work and the truck wouldn't start and the theft light was on just the symbol

Adding Keys

Important:

• To initiate, this procedures requires that a learned master key be available.
• A total of 10 keys may be programmed to a single vehicle.
• This procedure adds keys only. The procedure does not erase previously learned keys.
• The keys to be learned must duplicate the mechanical cut of the current key.
• If more than one valet key is to be learned, immediately precede each valet key with a learned master key.

1. With a previously learned master key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning OFF the ignition, insert the key to be learned and turn ON the ignition. The vehicle has now learned the new key.

 

If it is not working follow this.

 

30-Minute Vehicle Key Relearn

Important: This procedure will only relearn the vehicle keys. This procedure will not learn the immobilizer prerelease password or the challenge/response data. Do not use this procedure as a substitute for a 10-minute relearn when replacing or reprogramming a TDM or ECM. Doing so will result in a failure to learn the prerelease password and/or the challenge/response data.

This 30-minute learn procedure should be used when all vehicle keys are desired to be replaced or reprogrammed. This procedure will erase all previously learned vehicle keys from the TDM. Once the 30-minute learn procedure has been completed, any remaining vehicle keys may be programmed using the Adding Keys procedure to ensure their continued functionality.

Important: The TDM learns the key transponder information upon the ignition switch transition from OFF to ON. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

1. With an unlearned master vehicle key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Observe the security indicator, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn off.
3. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 1–3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.
5. With a master vehicle key, start the vehicle. The vehicle has now learned the key transponder information.
6. If additional keys are required to be learned, refer to the above Adding Keys

I bought Yukon used with only one key, before I add the new key i just bought is there a way to find out if the key I have is key #1 or key #2?  Is there a way to delete keys?

These are the steps to program a master key that you will need to get from your dealer or other retailer.

 

 

My local Chevy dealer told me I had to have my truck towed to them so that they could fix it. After completing a little research, I completed this on my own and saved myself probably $250 in towing fees and a major headache and other fees at the dealer. Rule of thumb, do not always trust what the dealer tells you.

 

 

 

 

 

IF NO OTHER WORKING KEY FOR THE CAR IS AVAILABLE: 1.Put the newly cut Master key into the keyway and turn it to the ON (RUN) position. A "Security" indicator light on the dashboard will stay on for 10 minutes. 2. Within 1 minute after the indicator light goes off, turn the ignition to "OFF" then return to the ON (RUN) position. The indicator light again will stay on for 10 minutes. (DO NOT REMOVE THE KEY) 3. Again, within 1 minute after the indicator light goes off, turn the ignition to "OFF", then return to the ON (RUN) position. The indicator light again will stay on for 10 minutes. (DO NOT REMOVE THE KEY) 4. When the light goes off for the third time, the new key is programmed into the computer and will start the car. Remove the key and then re-insert it into the ignition lock and start the car. All previously stored codes will be erased. To stop the process at any time, simply remove the key and use an existing key to start the car.

 

 

 

 

 

HOW TO PROGRAM THIS KEY IF YOU HAVE ATLEAST ONE WORKING KEY

 

 

FOR CARS WHERE YOU WANT TO JUST CREATE A SPARE KEY: 1. Place an already programmed key in the keyway. 2. Cycle the ignition from OFF to ON (RUN) to OFF. 3. Within 15 seconds, insert the new, properly cut Transponder key in the ignition. Turn the key to ON (RUN) or START. The "Security" indicator light will go on and off. Turn the key "OFF". The key will now start the car. Repeat the second step for each new key to be programmed.

I am posting this because i order many parts but still my toyota prado land cruiser not start ...

i lost the one and only master key, and the left with the cut key but the cut key didn't work because it doesn't have a chip in it....

so what can i do to start my vehicle....

Good evening, I'm in the process of calling the dealership for a new set of keys, because I lost the only set of keys I had. I'm from an isolated village and the nearest town is an hours plane ride. Is there a way I can have the dealership ship a new set of keys and I can get to prgram the keys without having  to ship the truck by winter road which is a 10 hour ride to the nearest town.my truck is 2013 4x4 GMC Sierra.

Well, it's unlikely anybody here could give you a definite yes/no answer.  Phone up the dealer and see if they will make the keys based on the VIN.  You may have to fax your driver's license and registration papers to them to prove you own the truck, or something like that.

Digging up an old thread... Just bought my son a 2013 Sierra and the key is broken off in the ignition. Would it be possible to use the method above and hold the old key by the ignition while doing the add a key process? Then stick the same new key back in with the old key removed....?

You'd have to try it and see.  worst case is you need to make a second key w/o a chip, to turn the ignition on (while holding the busted off end of the old key near it), to do the add a key process.
