A quick question that I hope has a quick answer. I purchased a 2014 Silverado LT with the 8 inch screen non Nav and non Bose. I have had the truck for 3 weeks as of last Saturday. my question is this, I cannot see the weather app on my home screen. Do you have to have the Navigation and or Bose ssystem to have this app?

yes you have to have the navi. I did not have it in my truck until I upgraded to the IO6 factory navi. then weather was on my home screen

I have navigation. And I don't have the weather app. Going to find out when I go in for my first oil change.

Hello nvrnuf4me,

I understand that you have some questions regarding your navigation screen in your Silverado. I would like to take a further look into this for you. If I can be of any assistance, please private message your VIN so that I can reach out to an internal resource. Thank you.

Forgive my ignorance bigblzr94, but you stated you did not have until you upgraded to IO6 factory navi. Is this just a "falsh" to the radio unit? Also, if you do not mind me asking, how much did this cost?

You have to purchase the upgrade kit it's around $900. You can read about it on this forum and pm Kodiakz he does the sales and programming to your vin. Simple install of removing the old unit and installing the new and running an antenna.

You shouldn't need Nav to get it (I don't on my 2013 Cruze). What you DO need is an active XM plan above a certain level (it's the same for the "Fuel" and "Movies" apps). It's called "SiriusXM Travel Link":

I know you don't get it on the lowest ("Select") plan, I think you need to subscribe to SiriusXM Premier or above. You may be able to add it a-la-carte for an additional monthly fee as well.

UPDATE PER GM CUSTOMER CARE REP KRISTEN A............

In order to have weather on your MyLink radio, you need to have an IO6 radio and the vehicle location is also needed. You currently have an IO5 radio, which is why the weather option is not available. Please let us know if you need any other assistance.

Also, I asked how to obtain the IO6 radio and her response is as follows.....

The IO6 radio is more than a flash program. At this time GM does not offer this program to change your IO5 radio to an IO6. You can visit your dealership and have the parts department contact GM accessory group to check if there is an upgrade available later.

I am assuming that the IO6 is the NAVI radio unit and the IO5 is the standard 8 inch radio unit without NAVI. To speak to the earlier post concerning the XM subscription, I am on the trial XM and if I am not mistaken, this includes all features. I could be wrong, no doubt. Either way, it would appear that I will need to spend $900 for the kit offered by Kodiakz to upgrade in order ot view the weather on the radio. Thanks to all who chimed in.

I paid for a year of the Serious/XM so I could listen to Howard Stern and also renewed my OnStar and my Weather app doesn't work. I have navigation.

You need xm travel link for sure and maybe xm nav traffic subscription for weather to work.

I thought Serius and XM merged? I'm not sure I can pay for two subscriptions for basically the same thing.
