'03 oil filter

Anybody know why GM switched to a smaller oil filter on the '03s?

 

Any problem using the larger filter from '02?

Yes, I've been using the PF-44.  Still don't know why they switched - someone once posted it was part of an an overall policy to consolidate several lines w/ common parts.  ???

 

My only issue is less oil available immediately on start-up to the top of the engine.  Maybe the difference is inconsequential, don't know.
