My dealership keeps encouraging me to get a cat-back system. An not through them either. Every time I've been at the dealership, a couple of the guys keep bugging me "Get an actual exhaust on that thing yet" "Didn't hear you pull up" "You can really sneak up on someone in that thing"

So the whole, only buy our parts or else, and only have them installed here, or else - Total sucker lines. What's next, only fill up as gas station 'XYS' because it's the only one authorized by GM?

Thanks man, that is what I meant, my bad for not being more clear. I think that most dealerships have at least one of those guys floating around that's full of crap.

Hey Desert. Sorry to upset your balance. I thought this forum was for informational purposes. Why don't I do this.....get the hell off of this GM forum site and just find somewhere else to go....maybe that will make you happy. So sorry to be such a non-mellow guy. The hell with it. I am off of here. Do not need this BS.

No harm intended, sorry bud, I meant the service manager, not you, my bad. I too am here for the info.

I added the Magnaflow cat back dual exhaust to my truck this past weekend and I went in to my dealer today to getting 1st. Oil change and didn't hear 1 thing about the exhaust period. The only thing we brought up was my fog lights since we had a lot of rain over night I noticed there was some water inside one of them and they said in order for warranty to cover I had to reinstall the factory bulbs I had from factory and remove my LEDs , other than that smooth as it could be...

I went in for my first oil change today as well and the only thing they said about my exhaust was that they loved the way I routed the tip out of the body

Just my 2 cents here on this. Don't let this dude Desert get to you. You did a very good thing by letting everyone know about this and then you followed though with getting a reply from GM on it. Most people won't go to the level that you did, I for one thank you as I have been thinking about this since ordering my truck with a 6.2 engine. Like you I plan on the Borla exhaust system, I do find it interesting that the GMC site only list the 5.3 engine exhaust systems and not the 6.2 exhaust system.

To this day, when I have taken the Syclone in to the dealership for anything like a A/C checkup. They still use the check list that GM came out with to see if anything was modified on the truck. The comment is always listed as "truck was return to pre-release standards". Give me a break the truck was only built 1 year and that was way back in 1991 and it is out of warranty already. If anyone needs to mellow out it just might be this Desert dude.

NOTE: Just seen where desert clear up the misunderstanding on this.

Stan, I hate to say this but that is not correct. You void the warranty, as the GM representative informed me, on the complete engine system because the exhaust is an integral part of that system. If the pressure valve or "flapper" or what ever you want to call it that regulates the V8-V4 system is changed, it will void the warranty if there is ever an issue. (unless the change was made by the GM dealership) The key word being EVER. There may never be an issue with any type of performance exhaust upgrade regardless of the manufactor. But you can bet your bottom line that if there is an issue and they can somehow equate it to the change, you will never win that battle. Just saying...

I think this forum was just for informational purposes. What somebody does with their $45K to $60K Chevy/GMC vehicle is entirely up to them. In my case, I am having the GMC dealership make the performance exhaust change and IF there is an issue, they can correct it. It appears to me that this new 2014 roll out of trucks is still in the evaluation mode and they are carefully monitoring changes that are not stock or factory part authorized. I could not imagine hiring an attorney to fight the massive law firm that GM retains to defend their actions and decisions. Like I said, just informing the masses of what I found out from a GM technician.

Like others have said, this is mostly incorrect. First off, what "warranty" are you referring to? Are you implying that if you modify your exhaust that GM will not repair suspension problems? Will GM not honor their corrosion warranty? They cannot cancel your entire warranty because you modify one part of the truck with non-OEM parts. Secondly, as others have said, GM has to be able to prove that the modification caused the failure to be able to deny the warranty work. So, at the very most, you're talking about engine warranty, but GM will have a hard time showing/proving that an exhaust change caused the engine to fail. There are lots of mechanics on here that can tell you that that's pretty much impossible.

And Yes, GM is a big company, but this has been addressed in the past by Class Action lawsuits and other Federal Laws. As others have stated, read the Magnusun-Moss Act - or a summary of. Additionally, there are organizations like SEMA that represent the interests of aftermarket companies so that they can compete and stand up to the large OEMs. These laws and organizations protect these companies and their customers so that OEMs can't deny warranties and squash the "little guy." If GM started denying warranty work because of brand X muffler without justification, you'll have lawyers lining up to protect the aftermarket industry and their business's interests. It wouldn't really be ablout the "little guy" (i.e. you), but about all the other "big guys" at the table (i.e. aftermarket companies).

The OP's dealer service department writer is an idiot. It does not void the entire warranty or even the drivetrain warranty, it also has no affect on the cats either as long as the new exhaust system is a catback system. The only thing that would be void is the exhaust system from the muffler back.

The flapper valve is nothing more than a noise regulator for off idle and part throttle, it has no bearing on the V4-V8 change at all.

Yes he is an idiot. It seems that sometimes people at the end of the food chain want to make up a new rule.

I have water in one of my fog lights and the dealership won't replace it because they believe there has been hids installed on my fogs. I've had them on the top so therefore they say I had the fog lights as well and that my warranty is voided.

The dealer can't void your warranty based on assumptions. That's B/S from them, did you speak to the manager? I have seen this happen to others but if they continue to try to void your warranty I would try another dealer and take your business elsewhere.

I went the first time and the advisor said I would have to go back because it's a 4 hour job and it was to late to get done. The second time I went was on a Saturday and the advisor said that the service tech was not able to replace because there was some melting and the tech which would make the decision of replacing under warranty or not was available on weekdays only. After that I said alright let me escalate this issue, so I talked to the gm advisors here on the forum. I then received a phone call from the service advisor and he said to come in (which would be my 3rd time) and he would have a loaner for me ready to go to get the work done, I went in at 7 am before work. He then called the shop foreman to take a look at it, the foreman stated something of high output had been in the fog light because he noticed melting in the housing and he compared to other 14s on the lot. And that's the last. GM advisor said she would contact the dealership to ask questions and she would get back with me but that she cannot guarantee a favorable outcome. And this is only one fog light that has moisture in it, not both.
