Rear Door Fit

Closing the rear driver door on the wife's 2014 LTZ Z71 I noticed it rattled a bit and didn't sound as solid as the other doors.

So I started looking it over because it didn't sound right, at the lower corner of the door at the bottom when the door shuts the door doesn't flush and sticks out a bit. If you lay a straight edge on the body to the door it probably sticks out less than about 1/8" or so. This spot where it sticks out is just below the lowest crease in the door. The area is just in the corner of the door.

The other side is similar but doesn't stick out quit as much.

So I compared it to my High Country, the doors on it are flush.

We took it to the dealer on an unrelated issue and I asked they look at it. We compared to other trucks in the yard. Many had a nice tight fitting door at the bottom, but there were several that were not. Some more noticeable than others. Our truck is a bit worse than any we saw.

Tomorrow they are going to have their body shop look at it and give an opinion.

I would have never noticed this if they door hadn't rattled a bit when closing.

Any one else notice the back door not fitting right on their truck?

Any one else notice the back door not fitting right on their truck?

I am assuming you are talking about a crew, and not the double cab? The reason I ask is because I have a CC and also noticed that both rear doors towards the bottom rear of the doors alos sits about an 1/8 of an inch out from the rest of the panels. My wife is the first to notice and when she brought it up to me, we went to the dealership we purchased our truck from for some research.

Unlike you, we did not find any CC Chevs or GMCs where the rear door fitment was tight. All that we found is ALL of the rear doors were exactly as mine is. We just assumed that this was normal and I have not said anything to my service department due to the conclusion of nonscientific research.

I will say that I have noticed several 2014 CCs on the freeways here in Houston and their rear doors appear to be the same as mine. Yet another reason we have not said anything.

I've not rode in the back seat of my truck and cannot speak to whether or not there is wind noise due to the pertrusion of the doors, but my teen-aged son hasn't mentioned it.

I would be interested to know if it is in fact supposed to be this way or not.

Sorry for the multiple posts, I am just figuring out the picture process. I have included 2 pics of the driver's door, which is slightly worse than the passenger door.

Yes it is a crew cab.

It is the spot you show. I can lay my cell phone against the cab using it as a straight edge (at the time it was the only flat thing I had close to me) at the spot where it bends and the door is about 1/2 the width of the iphones case out. Measuring it is between an 1/8 and 3/16.

Like I say, I checked others on the lot and my own High Country. None of those were that far and many were actually flush.

Mexican door alignment standards have been met and verified by an imaginary quality control team.

Open the door - lean a 2x4 up against the door sill as far forward as possible - gently close the door on the 2x4 - now gently push the lower rear corner of the door in - you will feel the door flex - remove the 2x4 - check gap - repeat as necessary - BE GENTLE - it wont take much - :happysad:

I will save this fix for when it is out of warranty :smash:

My 2017 Z71 Lt CC has this same issue on the drivers rear door.  The bottom foot or so sticks out just enough to notice. Dealer says there is no adjustments for the door so no fix.  I was actually thinking the same thing as user:desert actually.  The issue is apparently a bent door or bent door sheetmetal.  It's been this way since it came off the shipment truck which is when I got it so it's not something that was done after the Mexican factory.  Obviously they do not care about QA down there, for the door alignment at least.  Anyway, Nothing on YouTube for adjustments that I've found so the 2x4 fix is in the future, post warranty.

Mine was built north of the border and is the same. When I bought my truck over a year ago most of the 2018's on the lot were worse than mine. The is no wind noise, just poor fit and finish but not enough to really bother me.

The bailout money must not have tricked down to the quality control department.

    • Update for anyone following:    Installed everything as shown in diagram. Opted for 8 AWG from Battery Positive to a 50A resettable inline breaker. 8 AWG is tied into to 2x 12 AWG wires feeding a 6 way fuse bus in parallel (manufacturer’s design of what I purchased).    4 of the 6 fuses available for circuits are tied to terminal 30 of each relay. I tied a jumper from one of my spare circuits off the bus to terminal 86 of each relay. The trigger, terminal 85, was pulled from my interior by way of T-Taps from the X61A-X5 pins 10, 11, 17 and 23. This was the hardest part of the job. Even with the X61A unbolted and the X5 removed - there was VERY little wiggle room.  I added back up lights that I want to come on with my cargo lamp - but when I would check continuity between S48A-X1 pin 18 to its respective landing point on the X61A-X5 it triggers the factory relay… Instead I opted for a add-a-fuse on the passenger interior fuse panel (fuse location 10 - cargo lamp) and ran it through the boot on the driver side to my load. Did this to avoid introducing any electrical gremlins.   Note: Please check for continuity between the S48A-X1 and the X61A-X5. In my case wire colours were not the same as other’s who have posted. To do a continuity check you need a Multimeter. Completely disassemble the S48A-X1 and remove the brown face plate off the X61A-X5 by way of a flat head screwdriver - this was the only way I could get any results.   The outputs, terminal 87 of the relays, were fed into a junction box and landed at Individual studs and were labelled Aux 1-4.    At this point, all you need to do is run wire to your loads and bring them to ground. I created a negative bus in the engine bay, all my negatives land here.    For anyone having issues with all of your new aux switch lights coming on with the press of one - I noticed this only to be an issue when the battery wasn’t hooked up to my relays? No idea why, but it was quickly corrected by having my system buttoned up and functional.
    • Well I ordered the Autel ts508, and it won't work on my truck I tried all the 2023 and everything it just says vehicle not supported lol   I'm able to send this unit back, so I'm going to do that, then I'll just stop into a some tire shops and if none of them are able to do it, I guess ill have to spend a bunch of money to get a good scanner..... Thanks GM lol
    • Don't need the air tube but that's how everyone sells them. Most places won't remove that one piece and sell it alone. No money to be made. Hoping someone swapped theirs out for a CAI and no longer wants it. Not asking anyone to give it away. Offering to buy it but I don't need the tube. It's held on by a hex head screw and nut. Been all over eBay.
    • Wait, you guys are changing your oil???
