Silverado and Sierra reliability - better info

Recommended Posts

I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that made the differences between cars clearer. So a few years ago I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track cars and trucks closely as they age.

We'll have an initial stat for the 2014 Silverado and Sierra later this month. For a full stat the next time around we'll just need a few more owners involved.

Participants report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, following the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the Silverado and Sierra, for free. I'll share results for the pickups in this thread after each update.

New vehicles should have no repairs either. Oil changes and tire rotations should be the only things reported.

No. Iy is part of a national database and you get the data free if you participate. Check out the site.

Guys, the TrueDelta folks have permission to be here. Knock it off.

Our reliability stats for the Silverado and Sierra now include owner experiences through March 31, 2014, making them nearly a year ahead of other sources.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2014 Silverado and Sierra: 16, low, small sample size

Thank you, once again, everyone who has been helping. We'll have a much better sample size with the next update, in August. Additional participants always helpful.

its a great database, i was part of it for the 03 CTS a few years ago but i just got sick of filling out the info all the time.

ill do it if you only send me a reminder email 1x annually (or semiannually) without follow up reminders and ill input the info when i have time. you have to keep in mind the sierra service intervals are 12,000km so that is only 2x a year for me at most (unless i keep up with how much ive been driving the last 4 days, i really like driving this truck)

my 2014 sierra is only 4 days old (in service).

We've updated our reliability stats for the Silverado and Sierra (combined in the stats below) to include owner experiences through June 30, 2014 (making them about 14 months ahead of some others).

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2014 Silverado: 8, low -- a very good start for an all-new truck

Next updates in November and in February. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

I tried to join this twice in two different days. Both times after filling in all the info, it says page can't be displayed

Any chance your write up included a large amount of cut and paste data?

I've found in the past that if the amount of info I tried to cut and paste was 'large' that the site wouldn't accept the post.

(for the record, I didn't feel the amount of info was excessive -- and it was all text -- but it has happened more than once)

Perhaps one of the mods can give us more info...

No question you can accurately predict the first bit. But on the second the facts suggest otherwise.

What many people don't realize is that this survey is structured far differently from others. To avoid a common source of distortion, the survey doesn't ask about what happened in the past, but collects data each quarter going forward. We don't count any problems that appeared before someone joins.

With the 2014 pickups, 47 of the 62 members responding, a bit over 3/4, reported zero problems in the past year. This is about average for a 2014 in our survey. For some over 90 participant of the owners participating reported zero problems.

Additional participants are always good to have. We especially need more for the 2015 and (once it arrives) the 2016.
