Where are you mounting scanners/CBs/UHF equipment?

Trying to find a good place on my regular cab silverado to mount a police scanner. it's abotu 9 inches wide and 8 inches long. About 2-3 inches tall. A good place is under the center stack but I don't want to lose use of the compartment that's there.

Anyone got any pics?

(Also yes I tried searching, I hope this hasn't been asked before)

mount it on the rear firewall/sheet metal behind the center console / jump seat.

wouldn't that make it impossible to see? or turn on/off while driving?

impossible, no. Yeah it will be awkward to turn off and on but it will be out of sight but close enough to your ear that you will not have to have it on very loud to hear it over your good time radio.

only other place I can think of where it will be out of the way is on the roof or under the jump seat but on the roof it will be very visible and under the jump seat (not sure if there is enough room) it will have to be kind of loud. although now that I say that, does it have a speaker that is independent or is the speaker in the scanner like a CB?

I will have an external speaker on it for sure. I'm not terribly worried about hiding it. I may put it directly under or just to the left or the steering column.

If you have a full center console, mount it on the driver side (leave room for seat to move forward ). if you have bench seat ,mount it to the front of the seat, or the floor ? They do make mounts for a installed in front of the seats, check with your local fire/police dept. ask them who did there's. or any two-way radio shop ?

I tried to come up with a clean mounting location for mine but couldn't find a spot that was convincing enough to do it.

For a truck with a console, I'd think about mounting it in the junk box just in front of the cup holder. Or get a Uniden UH7760 that can be hidden and all the controls are on the Mic.
