Hey guys,

I've got an 05' Chevy 2500HD 6.0L gasser. This morning driving to work i realized it wasn't running properly. When i came to a stop it would idle down really low. Like 400 to 500 RPM. Sounds like its about to die, but it never would die. Doesn't run rough, no shaking, no miss fires. Then i also realized my gas gauge was acting funny. On the digital range it was jumping for 25-40 miles till empty, but i know it should be much more than that. I just filled it up the night before. Like i said, it runs fine besides the low idle. No power loss, no shaking, no dying, no sputtering, no mis-fires. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help!

I've had fuel pumps go out on other vehicles but nothing this new of year. In the others I've changed it either completely stops pumping fuel or wont pump enough to even start the vehicle. I'm up for any ideas though. I dont have a pressure gauge to check it though.

For starters I'd clean the throttle body, MAF. The gauge issue kinda points to towards the pump/sending unit. I'd do a pressure check on it by borrowing a pressure gauge from an auto parts store Plus you could have gotten crappy gas

i did some research showing that it should be 55psi. Is this correct? I'll check it tonight after i get off work and update tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Should idle at 500 RPM when in gear and at operating temperature.

Fuel pressure spec at the Schrader valve on the rail is 55-62 PSI key on, engine off. Just a couple PSI below spec will cause issues.

If you have low fuel pressure you would definitely see a loss of power. Throttle body service is probably all you need.
