Hot rear brakes

Recommended Posts

So I just replaced my rear brakes because they were squealing bad and then I drove the truck today and my rear breaks were dragging hard. I could feel it and so i pulled over and checked to see if I could see if anything was wrong and my rear brakes and my rims were extremely hot. So I re-bled the brakes, no air in the system what could be the culprit? I am drawing a massive blank here. Please someone help ASAP thank you for your time.

Sticking calipers?

+1

Caliper slides must be clean and lubed with the correct lube

It is definitely the calipers both of my rear ones were hung up. I got the replacement parts my advise go to advanced auto auto zone only has the caliper itself as where advanced has the caliper and the bracket for the same price.

I will order n calipers or parts, but I'm located overseas in Norway so I don't have to many options. I will call and see if I get rebuild set, calipers or complete loaded calipers.

Be sure and inspect those rear e-brake linings as well. GM had fits with that set-up so they changed back to rear drums in 2005.

It's not my parking break because once I replaced one side the heat went away. So I got all the parts to completely redo everything.

I found the issue with mine. The pads was to thick and I grinded them With 100 grit paper on a steel plate down to 14,5mm approx 1 mm. One of the sliding bolts also had rust in the bottom of hole so it could not fully return. I used a 5/18" / 8mm drill bit and cleaned up and lubricated all with copa slip/ copper paste.

So now I have rebuilt calipers and cold brakes.

Regards from Norway :-)
