Brakes problem on 2001 Silverado

2001 Chevy 5.3l, 4x4, g80 locker, ext cab quad.

I have a malfunctioning ABS sensor. I pulled the ABS fuse out to turn off the ABS.

Now this is where I get to the puzzling part. - When I apply the brakes I get a surging similar to ABS--but remember I have no ABS. The speed of the surging is directly related to the speed of the wheels. So I am thinking maybe a rotor and/or pads are warped?

What are your thoughts? Is there any other thing that it likley could be?

Very unlikely they’re warped, although pedal feel may suggest they are.
Pull wheels. Check rotors for glazing, discolored areas where brake pad material is embedded in / adhering to rotor.

once the ABS light comes on the ABS is disabled anyways ,,,,,no need to pull a fuse

Sometimes it isn't a bad idea if you plan on not fixing it, When I had a wheel speed sensor out (ABS light on) it made the ABS pull to the left really hard when it activated.

Ya i thought the same too until that happened on my 01, that's why I always advise everyone to address ABS issues immediately

i have the same problem, read somewhere its the ABS module on the frame under the drivers seat

Depends on why light is on. Mine goes on if I hit a bump, then goes off after stopping and restarting. Other than than that it works.

Do both ABS and Brake lights come on?

Yes. Been that way for a couple of years. I figure it is in the module but to me not worth fixing.

If it comes on after hitting a bump it's often the pump motor relay shorting out. Requires a module rebuild (around $150)

Less unsprung weight/rotational mass, quicker cooling/lower rotor/pad temps during hard braking, decreased stopping distance, less brake fade. Better brake performance when wet, as the water is channeled away from the pads.

The lower rotational mass/unsprung weight will help your acceleration a bit too.
