Truck feels like it still wants to go when coming to a stop

I have a 14 all terrain and i noticed a couple days ago that i have to press down on the brake alot when coming to a stop feels like the truck is still wanting to take off. Anyone noticed an issue like this?

Yep did this all the time in my 2007. When the transmission downshifts, there's a spike in torque/power switching to the lower gear and the truck feels like it's lunging forward and you have to hit the brakes harder. Just a terrible tuning job by GM and unfortunately one you will most likely have to live with unless you get a custom tune done.

Darn that sucks well thanks for the info makes since, guess I'll have to let off the gas way ahead of time...good luck with that huh....

Yep braking early seems to be the only way to eliminate it. But my new 2014 behaves just as my 2007 did with regards to this problem. Otherwise I think the transmission in my 2014 shifts much more smoothly overall than my 2007 4-speed did.

God forbid your truck wanting to do what it was built to do "GO". The purpose of the engine and transmission is to make the vehicle GO. The purpose of the brakes is to make it stop going.

I am sorry that you do not want your truck to do what Chevrolet designed it to do. Maybe you should go sell it and buy a bicycle instead because those do not "go" unless you provide manual power.

Either you don't understand the problem described here or you've accepted poor transmission performance as being normal. Either way you're wrong.

On which part? The fact that Chevrolet designed a vehicle to go or the fact that it is supposed to go unless the brakes are applied?

I did not realize that transmissions are not supposed to make a vehicle go. Perhaps, I have not experienced the issue that you are claiming to be an issue. What is clear is that the design seems to be working as advertised. If you are not happy with it do take it up with your stealers service department.

One thing is clear is that you do not understand the physics of motion or else you wouldn't have told me that I was wrong. The vehicle is supposed to go once put into gear until the vehicle is stopped with brakes. Sometimes braking requires a lot of effort.

I actually think your problem is less likely related to the transmission and more likely related to a brake booster problem. You might have to put more effort into braking because of a lack of the power braking system working correctly.

my first assumption would be that it is related to the lock-up on the torque converter not disengaging.

I had this scenario happen 20+ years ago with my 87' El Camino with 700R4 transmission. I think the solenoid for the spool valve was bad.

You still missed his issue. The issue he is describing is that the vehicle still wants to move forward while braking.

Nope I did not miss that issue. ALL automatic transmission vehicles WANT to move forward if put into drive mode.

ALL... I say again ALL vehicles. I have owned a great many in my 35 years of life and have driven a great many in the military. I did not miss the point of him stating that the vehicle desires to move in a forward direction even with the brakes applied. THAT IS what it is supposed to do. Again, it is designed that way.

Transmissions are designed to release forward engine inertia by means of disengaging the torque converter when brakes are applied allowing the vehical to stop under its own only forward inertia!

This is what this post's is about, the fact it feels like the transmission is still locked up causing forward inertia and more braking force needed to slow or stop the vehical.

This would be similar to using gas and trying to stop at the same time.

So please this topic is inline, and makes perfect sense to me.

By the way, I have had this happen to me a few times also!

For me it also felt like the release from torque converter took too long, and harder braking was neede to slow the truck.

GM needs to rework the TCM inertia timing. "Transmission control module". The amount of time before torque converter releases during certain conditions I.E. shifting points. This causes the tranny to be confused and there is a prolonged enertia release from torque converter.

Gm if you are listening please address this serious mapping of the transmission control module before many people get hurt or killed.

I had this in my 2007 but have not noticed it in my 2014. It almost feels like you won't be able to stop on time when coming to a complete stop because of the added power boost. I also had slip yolk issues in my 2007 where it would feel like I got rear ended about 5-10 seconds after coming to a complete stop at a traffic light. I put over 150k miles on that truck and had the yolk replaced twice and lubed 5-6 times... all under warranty.

Of course the vehicle wants to move forward in drive. If you are stopped and take your foot off the brake, the car starts moving forward. We get that. The issue is the surge in power and the lunging forward that the truck does upon downshifting. No, NOT all automatic transmission do that. In fact only my 2007 and 2014 silverados have done that to me. Every other automatic I've driven in life did not do it including my dad's '96 Silverado, his '99 Suburban, and his 2004 Suburban.

So again, you are not understanding the problem.
