my buddy just bought it and he let me drive it. They run alot better than i thought. The steering and braking was great and the accelerator was awesome barely touch it and your moving quick. The handling was sharp for a big car. The transmission shifts firm and very hard. The best part was the ride the price. But the main thing was the engine. It only is rated at 250hp but over 300lb ft of torque but it feels faster. And the sound was orgasmic. They dont have resonators or anything to block the sound, its a deep beefy sound inside and out when cruising and when you floor it it screams loud. Definately a head turner when you kick it lol . I thought i wouldn't like a crown vic since my brother had a 2000 model. But apparently they have received alot of upgrades since then

Its most high profile use, though, is by law enforcement outfits. Federal agencies, State troopers and local Police departments all love its unique blend of reliability, safety and performance. We've managed to get our hands on one for a few days - on UK roads.

You were driving a car that was outdated when that model was revised in 1998. The thing was slow, 0-60 in 8 seconds with a governed top speed of 130 MPH. But it was a good solid car otherwise. I owned 3 of them. We called them the P71 Police Interceptor. Thing is though.. GM had V-6 Police Package (9C1) Impalas that were faster then the Fords. Not to mention the Police Package Tahoes.

Since the Clown Vic ceased production last year or the year prior, the chocies now:

- Ford Police Interceptor Sedan (we just call it a Taurus because that is what it is) in a variety of engine choices, including the Ego Boost making it the fastest 0-60 time on the cars.. but crappy handling and crappy top end speed.

- Ford Police Interceptor Utility (we just call it an explorer because that is what it is) in a variety of engine choices, including the Ego Boost, making it a 6 second 0-60 runner. Pretty quick for a ute. This seems to be a big favorite amung many departments.

- Chevy Impala 9C1 Police Package- 305 HP 3.6L V-6 gives it a 6 second range 0-60 time and a top speed of 149 MPH (governed)

- Chevy Caprice 9C1 Police Package- (Made by Holden) which offers either the 3.6L V-6 or the 6.0L V-8 (355HP) and provides the highest top end speed of the police package vehicles out there of 157 MPH (Saw one take down an STI on youtube)

- Chevy Tahoe Police Package

- Dodge Charger- with a variety of engine choices, most go for the 5.7L HEMI. Outdated, but still a very popular car and good performer with crappy typical chrysler reliability.

I thought the 2006 impala with the 3.9 was about the same as the crown vic? The 2012 got the 3.6.

I've always wanted to drive one of the gmt900 police Tahoe's, they just look so cool.

They are much better than driving a regular tahoe or GMT wit hthe 5.3L. Much more torque and the ones we have are pretty damn quick. Not sure how GM has them tuned BUT they should set up all their SUV's and trucks that way.

Don't know that they made an Avalanche PPV. Doesn't mean they didn't just buy one and run it. The package isn't anything special, usually a slightly lowered suspension, high speed rated tires and not much else.

The 2WD Tahoe really isn't all that quick compared to the civilian version other than the Top speed of course.

2014 Michigan State Patrol Vehicle Testing

For the utility vehicles, the Chevrolet Tahoe reached a top speed of 139 mph followed by the turbocharged 3.5L Ford P.I. Utility (131) and 3.7L P.I. Utility (131). The turbo P.I. Utility logged the fastest 0-to-60 increment (6.28 seconds) over the Tahoe (8.22) and non-turbo P.I. Utility (8.02). The turbo P.I. Utility also reached 100 mph quickest (15.51) over the Tahoe (21.95) and non-turbo P.I. Utility (21).

Among the six sedans in the V-8 and turbocharged category, the top-speed crown again went to the 6L Chevrolet Caprice PPV, which reached 155 mph. It was followed by the V-8 Charger at 152 mph and the 3.5L, turbo-charged Ford Police Interceptor at 149 mph. The turbo P.I. recorded the fastest 0 to 60 mph increment (5.66 seconds) followed by the Caprice (6.01) and Charger (6.13). The turbo P.I. reached 0 to 100 mph fastest (13.5) followed by the Caprice (14.35) and Charger (14.56).

Among the six sedans in the V-6 category, the 3.6L Chevrolet Impala reached a top speed of 149 mph followed by the 3.6L Caprice (148), 3.6L Charger (141), and 3.7L non-turbo Ford P.I. (132). The Caprice reached 0 to 60 fastest (7.45 seconds) followed by the non-turbo Ford P.I. (7.48) and Impala (7.67).

For the brake tests, the V-8 Charger recorded the quickest stop among sedans from 60 to 0 mph at 126.5 feet. It was followed by the V-6 Caprice (126.8), V-6 Charger (127.5), and V-8 Caprice (127.6). Among utility vehicles, the Tahoe was the top braker at 133.2 feet followed by the non-turbo P.I. Utility (134.2) and turbo P.I. Utility (134.9).

In driving dynamics testing, the V-8 Charger with a 3.06 axle ratio recorded the fastest 2-mile lap time at 1 minute, 34 seconds (1:34.75). In a near dead heat, the V-8 Caprice came in second at 1 minute, 34 seconds (1:34.98). The turbo P.I. sedan came in at 1 minute, 35 seconds. Among the utility vehicles, the turbo P.I. Utility led the way at 1 minute, 37 seconds followed by the non-turbo P.I. Utility at 1 minute, 40 seconds and the Tahoe at 1 minute, 42 seconds.
