I'm surprised they're doing this. In a few years the 10 speed tranny co-developed between Ford and GM will be out for both makers' trucks. Personally, I prefer less gears which is why I sprang for the 2014 to ensure I was getting a time tested 6-speed transmission.

I agree. I think the constant shifting would be annoying. If they could make a CVT strong enough for towing (which I don't think has been done yet" this would be the best solution. Personally I even find the 6 speed's constant shifting to be annoying, I can't imagine an 8 speed or 10 speed!!

I agree! when you pull a trailer with these new trucks they are constantly changing gears. But what can we about it ? Guess Ii better go back to a diesel!

Yeah I came from a 4 speed in my 2007 Silverado and honestly felt a 5th gear would have been great in that track but overall the 4 wasn't bad. I've been pleasantly surprised with the 6 speed it drives way better than my 4 speed ever did. I just can't imagine 8 and 10 gears and the constant shifting involved with that....seems like a recipe for costly repairs but I'm not a transmission engineer so what do I know.

I'm happy with my 2014 6 speed, coming from a 08 4 speed. I don't pay any attention to the shifting. If I were towing or driving where the trans was shifting when I didn't want it to, I'd put it in manual. That seems to work pretty well. But, of course, all the work of changing to manual and moving the electric shift button adds to driving fatigue tremendously. Just reaching for a cold drink from the cupholder can sometimes wear a guy down. Especially if it's a family bucket sized drink.

Do you notice much of a difference from the old 4 speed in terms of having to deal with a truck shifting?

The more gears, the more you can dial in BOTH power & fuel economy.

The 8 speed was the main reason I test drove a Ram & was the only part of the truck I wanted to leave the dealership with.

To each their own, but in my opinion the K2's should have rolled out day one with the 8 speed box.

And could have been recalls # 6, 7, and 8
