2015 YUKON NOISE IN CABIN

Hi all,

 

I created an online survey to better quantify the issues surrounding our trucks. The goal is to get more accurate numbers. The survey is open to *everyone*, including those with no vibration or buffeting issues. It's 2 minutes of your time and can only help size up the issue(s) at hand.

 

No personal information is required, other than the last 6 digits of your VIN which will be used to weed out duplicates. The VINs may be useful to GM, if/when the results are shared.

Before my Suburban I had a mini van. The burb is definitely an upgrade all around. That poor van got beat to shit. Plus the towing capacity, which is a necessity for me, was way way to low. I think the SUVs are in a different class then the Mini vans.

AFM, exhaust and ANC? Didn't some of us already go down this road? Why are the 6.2Ls called out?

Can your share your experiences with the new Yukon that you had for the weekend?

 

 

Put about 100 miles on it and it was great. There is slight buffeting in it but it's less than any I've driven and I think it's the level of buffeting that most that didn't know of this issue would buy the truck and never look back. No vibrations which was huge for me and although I ended up going with a black SWB (I initially picked up a white LWB) I don't feel like I settled. I even went back to the dealership today to drive another black one with HUD and adaptive cruise just for one last comparison and I realized that I couldn't even see the HUD with my sunglasses on (which I wear 90% of the time). Adaptive cruise is cool but I wouldn't have added it if I were to special order a Yukon so it wasn't a deal breaker. I have always loved how black cars look but have liked white better. Once I saw the Yukon Denali in black I couldn't pass it up. I lease so worst case I keep it for 3 years...best case, I'll probably get out of the lease in 2 years and into something different anyway. I would bet I have driven 16-17 Yukons/XLs/Suburbans/Tahoes.

 

GM getting the VIN for this truck was the last thing they needed to get things wrapped up. Picked up my check from the dealer for the last 3 lease payments plus the personal property tax that my county charged. Aside from tons of dealer visits and having to not actually drive the car I picked out for 5 months, it could have gone MUCH worse. Hope to have things wrapped up by weeks end but there is a pretty massive snowstorm in the forecast for weeks end. Would love to have it to play around in the snow.

 

I will be sticking around here and will continue to press for action from GM.

I don't know if the writer is going down the road again, but the report looks like a generic, paraphrased compilation of information on this thread.

Well the service center called me and stated they only notice a drone sound when they vehicle switches to 4 cylinder and Gm has a bulletin out but no fix yet. I tried to explain that my ears are under a lot of pressure/pain even when the vehicle is not in motion and the pain has even caused me to get medical treatment, but he kept repeating the same thing. So I have to come in tomorrow and drive it with a technician. I guess ill have to drive it with them tomorrow. Ill also show them how the head liner bounces up and down violently with the rear windows down even at only 20 mph, and pound there ears out. Sheesh this sucks.

Suggest they remove the headliner and go for a drive, with you if necessary. There will be absolutely no doubt the roof is flexing after they get to observe it realtime.

674 Road tested, found exhaust droning at low speeds when engine is in v4 mode. Checked for TSBS found PIT5404 for problem, Engineering is aware of the issue and is working on an improvement as per TSB.

 

This is what they said about the noise in the cabin that is hurting my ears.

 

674 Road tested vehicle with both rear window halfway down due to vibration if you crack one front window the noise goes away test drove a 2015 Tahoe same thing happens normal

 

This is what they said about the headliner bouncing up and down when rear windows down at only 15 mph

Wait, it is indeed totally normal to buffet with a window or two down. The flimsy roof might make it worse but otherwise all modern aerodynamic vehicles that I have driven do this. This thread is about buffeting with the windows UP. If you don't have any buffeting with the windows up you are good.

I basically just have a lot of booming and ear pressure/booming when v4 kicks in. Never realized when the rear windows down the roof bounce and booming was normal. I understand rolling the windows down at hwy speeds but at 15mph? Never experienced that in my 2014 Tahoe, but then again 2 totally different vehicles. Chevrolet customer care just gave me a case number and are calling me back in a few days since the service center at my dealer told me its a problem Gm is aware of but there is no fix at this time and the vehicle is causing severe ear discomfort.

If your roof is detached from the cross bows the booming and buffeting will occur from V4, road irregularities, wind speeds, etc... The roof just has to be attached as designed or all sorts of things will excite it.

 

My 2003 was more tolerant of windows down as well likely due to the thicker sheet metal and the fact that it was much less aerodynamic.

I posted this before, don't think anyone replied but trust your opinion

 

What would be the downside of using something like fiber fix to actually lash the roof bow to its attachment point so that when the glue eventually comes undone, the lashes will still keep them together
