You have to change out the whole guage cluster.  Take a look at JP customs over on the left.  You could always mount an auxillary one, but the complete cluster would be the way to go.

I did this with my 2001 Silverado 1500.  The new instrument cluster you need to retain the stock look it the cluster from a 2500 series Silverado.  It looks identical to the one you have now except the blank circle under the little info screen is a trans. temp guage.

All you do is remove the dash bezel, pull the old cluster, plug in the new one and the truck's computer calibrates the new cluster for you.  The only downside is that the odometer and engine hours are reset to zero (if you consider that a downside).  It took maybe 15 minutes to swap them out.

The GM part # for the 2500 cluster is # 15059383.  I ordered it at gmpartsdirect.com for about $165.

Yes, sending wire is already there.  I changed mine out in the parking lot of speedo repair shop where I bought my Denali cluster.  I went to the counter and told them I had a Denali cluster there waiting.  Handed them my old cluster and about 15 minutes later, I put the new cluster in the truck.  The display read the exact odometer and hours as I had on the old one.  Drove off, no problem since.  Installed July 2002.

The Denali cluster has 120MPH speedometer and the GMC "silver-TECH" look, blue back lighting.

The Escalade cluster has 120MPH speedometer, retrolook numbers and chrome trim rings around each guage, I think it has orange/red back lighting (other please chime in).

120MPH speedometer is fully operational, however to get the truck move that fast, you'll have to have ECM's speed limiter changed to 120+.

Tucson_02 Silverado is correct.  The new cluster is "Plug and Play".

You'll either need to have a speedo shop update the new cluster with your current milage, or you can put a sticker in the door jamb to indicate the milage is not correct.  That will save you from any liabillities when you sell or trade the truck.  I don't know about the laws in all the states, but the DMV here has records of the milage of your vehicle from everytime you do your registration and state inspection.

The changeout is simple.  The bezel around the dash just pops off.  I think there are four 7mm or 10mm bolts that you can remove with a nut driver, and then the whole cluster will be out in your lap.  Unplug the harness and plug it into the new cluster and bolt it back in...

Where is the best place to get a Denali cluster?

How much are they?

Seems that would be the one i want

I like the look of the stock cluster

I just want the trans temp

i thought that the cluster retained the mileage and hour info in the chip that is in it------at least that is what i'm told??????

If you like the look of stock you can always just get a 3/4 ton cluster that has the trans. temp gauge in it.  You will still need to do the milage swap though.

Tucson_02Silverado- If you don't mine my asking, how much did the mileage transfer cost you. After the mileage swap, did the original cluster retain the same miles as well?

The cluster will retain the milage info whether it is connected or not.

I remember a guy on here about a year ago that bought a used HD cluster (EBAY maybe??? ).  It had a few more miles on it than his stock one did.  He just drove the truck until he was close on miles, and then made the swap.
