Reducing Front End Dive Whilst (Yes... Whilst) Braking

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any suggestions for reducing the front end DIVE when braking. Compared to my 2011, this bugger sinks when I hit the brakes more than I'd prefer. I have the Z71 FWIW.

Use the e-brake!? Front biased braking and forward weight balance. Maybe slow sooner. Not much else that can be done that I know of. Maybe brake sooner.

it is not an E-brake, it is a parking brake and is drum in hat design so it is not designed to provide that kind of braking power.

thicker sway bars might help a bit, but adjustable dampening front shocks is a better way to go.

That part was more af a sarcastic response, but I agree.

A sway bar will have zero effect on front end diving.

Stiffer front springs would reduce it. The only options for that are new coilover assemblies like King or Fox.

Stiffer valves front shocks will help a bit.

A leveling kit will help. It rocks the cg back a bit and changes the geometry of the A-arms to spring and makes it slightly more stiff the higher the spacers are.

Alright, thanks! I'll look into these. I probably can't do a lift up front because I've been known to tow a '68 Lincoln and that pup is heavy - levels the truck in stock form, would probably make it sink like a Ford if I lifted the front. Maybe not. I'll eyeball those coilovers. Thanks! I mean there is a limit to how much i will pay to prevent this dive. It's not terrible and I do brake early, but it's those emergency situations I feel like the back end is going to flip over the front compared to my 2011 Z71.

I put a 1 inch level in my 2012. Made a difference when braking, less dive to me for sure.

You might consider a mild leveling of around 1- 1 1/2" and some air bags in the rear for keeping it level for towing.

Good call. I thought I was the only one left that knew that! Driven home at GM training centers years ago.

Consider myself upgraded.

Stiffer springs and/or stiffer tires. Perhaps increase front air pressure.

This. Sway bars only affect side to side movement, they do absolutely zero for overall height. Stiffer springs would prevent this, but must be followed with stiffer shocks to maintain similar front end response. Stiffer shocks alone will kinda offset it a bit, but ultimately the springs are what provide the resistance to total travel, the shocks just limit the acceleration of said travel.
