2002 Tahoe - Leaking Front Differential

Recommended Posts

Well, my 2002 Tahoe has it's first problem. I noticed the other night that the front differential was leaking. I got under there and saw that the fill plug was fairly loose, so I tightened it up, but to no avail, still leaking.

I'm bringing it to the dealer tomorrow, which I hate to do. The thought of them potentially having to pull her apart kills me. The service rep said they've seen a few with a particular style vent tube on the front axle that leaks through the tube. I guess it's been redesigned and if that's it, its an easy fix. I'm worried though that somehow the axle seals are leaking and they'll need to pull the whole thing apart!

Any thoughts, ever heard of this on a new truck with only 10K miles?

Thanks

It was just the vent tube...whew! They added an O-Ring which keeps the tube from spinning and leaking. Nice and easy. 20 minute repair.
