Something weird with A/C

Running down the interstate the other day with air on and I start feeling heat on my face, after checking

the two vents over radio the one on the right has got very hot air coming out of it with cool air on the one

next to it.

I turned a/c off and back on and no change. After stopping at grocery when I started truck again the hot

vent was now cool again.

Yesterday same thing happened with hot air. Again after restarting this same vent was now cool again.

Anybody ever had this happen, or know if something is getting ready to go out.

Thanks for the info. I looked and saw the part isn't too expensive, but how hard is it to replace.

I also saw on the net the recalibration procedure and went ahead and did it, although it being sporadic right now I don't if that will

take care of it or not. Thanks again.

Did you by any chance have the battery disconnected in the past day or so? I have heard that these some times go nuts after a battery disconnect incident. If not, most just crap out but I guess it may go off on its own prior to that..

No, haven't had the battery disconnected in a long time. Guess I'll just wait until it goes out completely.

Just curious it it's hard to get too, or have to take it to a shop.

I too have had this problem on my 04 Silverado. Returning from Ohio to Texas it started big time so I did the "remove fuses" trick with no luck and then pulled into a dealer in Texarkana, TX. They wanted $800.00 to fix and charged me $99.00 to plug in the scanner. I said no thanks and continued on. Passanger side puts out cold air so we used a DC fan to blow cold air to the driver side until we needed to stop for fuel. After fueling, started and cold air comes from all vents. That was two weeks ago and it still works great. If I knew where that actuator motor was and how to remove it I believe I could repair/replace it. Anyone know where it is and how to remove it without removing the entire dash?

Almost directly in center of dash on top of the dog house.. After you get to it, its not bad to get to. 3 screws. 2 easy, 1 will need a ratcheting 1/4" wrench and a short phillips bit to use in the ratchet. There are a ton of threads and pictures out there... Pay attention to the calibration/synchronization methods.. Remember, opening and closing drivers door after the cycle of the key for this!!! Doesnt make sense now, but you will thank me when it does.

Didn't know my truck had a "dog house". Hate to show my ignorance - what is this?

Hump in the middle of floor pan. Still cant recall the right name for that. Dog house came out, my father would be proud.... LOL! Sorry!

Thanks for the heads up. Never heard it called that. Always called it "that hump in the floor". I have a 1954 chevy pickup and the floor is flat. When guys lower the cab on the frame, they are required to build a "tunnel" for the driveshaft.

Now I think you are referring to a location just to the right and up from the accelerator pedal (foot feed).

And yes it does not make sense about opening and closing the drivers door.

When cycling the key on and off for the calibration sequence, opening and closing the drivers door is the final sequence to the ignition cycle. Its arguable that it makes any difference but it seemed to be the part of the sequence that made it work when I was calibrating mine..

Was your fix a replace or repair? I guess by now you should have figured out that what I know about this fix you could put it in your eye and it would not hurt. I think if I can get it out I will be able to either fix it or replace it and go to something elsed. Appreciate your time

Well guys, I took this actuator apart and found this grease in it. Cleaned the grease away and used denatured alcohol to clean the contacts and circuit board. Put it back together and it works great.post-132997-0-83085600-1408671567_thumb.jpgpost-132997-0-33913400-1408671588_thumb.jpg
