NHT GVWR 7200/7600

When I was looking to buy my Silverado I looked at USAA's prices and I saw a glitch where it indicated a 7600lb gvwr option. So I bought my truck and discovered the NHT is identical to other Silverados. Today I find this on nada guides (click the gvwr tab):

I also saw that 7600GVWR is only available on 2015 and not 2014, with NHT. Even though nothing is changing between the two vehicles NHT packages whether 5.3 or 6.2.

 

That makes NHT a no brainer for me. I'm going to have to order the NHT on my 2015 CC but am waiting to hear what incentives they are going to offer on the 15s since I cant find or order a 14 with NHT now.

2015 6.2 NHT will use 3.42's and the 8 speed.

 

Non NHT 6.2's will use 3.23's for 2015.

FWIW, I'd always try and use a GM source for the ratings, not the dealers association.

Fwiw....I would too if i had found it lol. Thank you very much for the link. What changed for the 5.3 nht to warrant an increased gvwr? New sticker? Specs don't reflect j2807 do they?

They should be using J2807 for trailer towing specs. Don't know if/how that spec affects gvwr and grawr.

 

NHT (max trailer) is supposed to include "enhanced cooling radiator, revised shock tuning for increased control, heavier duty rear springs and increased RGAWR"

It's 7600 per the guide as reference above. That's awesome news. Silverados can get the NHT on only the 1LT or 1LZ models. Sierra on SLE or SLT.

Thats because in the Chev system 2LT and 2LZ are Z71's and Z71 and NHT cannot be ordered together. GMC side only 2 levels 3SA and 4SA (for SLE and SLT) where Chev uses the four.

Rgawr is 4100 on my truck. Order guide didn't reflect that.

Like the fine print says, "Mass values are calculated assuming nominal equipment. Actual values may vary due to equipment loading"

 

 

Did you try the "Model and Option Weights" calculator? How close was it to the actual for your truck.

It was very close when I used the 6.2 Too bad gm doesn't have this on the normal build your own site. FGAWR is wrong.

Basically yes. One tough, structural, fuctional sticker. In the past advertised tow and payload ratings were often made with a basically stripped down truck and no passengers. j2807 requires 150 lbs for a passenger and all common options (more than 33% of vehicles) be added in. That's your 400 lbs. They had a new spec to meet...cross out the old number and write the new number in (indicating how arbitrarily under-rated they were in the first place).

 

Sucks for 2014 owners, but for new owners looking to buy it's good news for 2015. It'll be really helpful to those wanting to tow 5th wheels.
