Anybody know what the is largest spare you can fit under the 14'? I'm thinking of changing to 285/60/20 tires soon and would rather not carry one in the bed if not necessary.

Life is so full of surprises.

Today I go outside to wash the truck, and I hear a slight hissing/bubbling noise. Sure enough, only a week after posting this thread, what happens but a screw in my drivers side rear tire!! I still had my spare with me, but I was at home anyways. I quickly jacked the truck up and switched over to my spare. I thought about leaving the screw in for tomorrow, but just my luck it would come out on the freeway somewhere and it would go flat in a hurry.

I didn't have any trouble with getting my spare tire down, and my truck is 3 years old. I thought GM trucks had a really bad system for getting the spare tires down, or was that on 2007 classic and older models? There doesn't seem to be a secondary latch system on my 2011. Just a winch type setup with the collar and spring that holds the tire onto the cable.
