Do you carry your spare?

I am thinking about taking my spare tire off and leaving it at home.

Do you guys still keep yours with you? 99% of my driving is all local, never too far away from help or shops. Plus, I am getting bigger tires soon, so really, the factory spare will be useless to me anyways.

Thoughts?

Never thought about going without the spare just to save a little bit of weight. Myself, I prefer to have keep mine for the extra security. Easier to change the tire myself than to pay someone else.

Besides, when I worked in a tire shop, a guy brought in a really nice truck that was low on air. Long story short, I ended up changing his tire for him because he either didn't know how, or was just too lazy to do it. His girl friend wasn't too impressed, neither was I....

Yes I carry the spare. However if it was useless, I would not carry it, I would carry plug kit, pump, etc like I do in the Challenger which has no spare.

Always carry a spare. And jumper cables too. Even if you have larger tires, you can put a stock size on front to limp down the road if needed. So long as you dont lock in 4wd.

The fuel savings or .02 sec better acceleration aren't worth to be stranded w/o a spare tire.

And as far as my experience goes...one will have a flat when least expected and no one is around.

I can't think of a single real benefit to ditching the spare. It's not heavy enough to see any real gains in power or efficiency.

Plus as soon as you take it off you will have a flat and your cell phone battery will be dead. That is just the way it works.

I'd never consider taking mine off.... Its cheap insurance.

Isn't it also near impossible to get the spare tire off?

No it's easy as pie

I thought people were having problems with 99-06 spares not releasing from under the vehicle due to a stuck cable or rust
