Splash Guards - Mud Flaps

I am looking at getting some mud flaps / splash guards for my new truck. I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on which is better; the molded or the flat guards. I am driving mostly highway but I drive on lease roads and rural dirt roads. I like the look of the molded but unsure about snow build up inside of them. I heard build-up can be a problem. I also heard flat can be easier if you decide to get bigger tires later.Any opinions are appreciated.

I just got the flat ones installed on my Yukon yesterday. The dealer told me that the flat ones tend to protect more against rock chips.

I went with molded strictly for the looks vs flat. As for snow build up, my plan is to give them a kick as required.

Just ordered the GM flat for my 15 HD. I was going to do the molded but I think that the amount of black plastic that wraps into the body is way too excessive for me. Will post pics when I toss them on.

I put the molded on my 15 Brownstone metallic and had them painted to match, black was too much for me as well. They look great and I have 305/55/20 tires with +25 offset wheels.

Put the new GM flat contoured guards on.

They have the indendations for those little black guard pieces, and mount up the same way as the molded guards.

I know what you mean. I bought molded, (for 2011 "new to me" Silverado) I had to drill 3 holes for each rear and 1 hole for each front, (fronts used 3 existing holes). I almost did not drill the 1 hole for the fronts, but since the engineers felt it was needed I did.

I just HATE drilling into something brand new but I asked my dealer if they would install them for me (for free) so I think I'm just gonna have to bite that bullet.

I like the molded flaps because they follow the body contours around the wheel wells. Looks like it came from the factory that way. (I drilled, and wasn't happy about it. But all done now.)
