Need some honest advice on my frame rust issue.

My 2014 (12-13 build date) Silverado has the rusty frame issue like many others. I have been to my local (not selling) dealer 4 rimes and keep getting sent from one dept to the next, with the promise of a call to get something done. I have never been called back and they flat out told me they don't want to fix it, take it back to where I got it. That's a long drive and lots of gas.

Now after reading how most of the TSB fixes are not really working I'm not sure if I want it done. I have a bedtred pro rug installed along with an Undercover Flex cover and I was told the bed would have to come off to do the TSB and I know that stuff won't go back on as good or even may get damaged in the process.

So here's where I need help, should I:

1) get some dealer to do the TSB, if one even will?

2) ignore it and if I choose this route how long before my frame is seriously damaged

3) wire brush and put something on the rust myself? What to use if I do this? There is lots of rust on the frame and every edge and every weld joint is rusted, so lots of work.

Try a different dealer if you must. THEY WILL FIX IT. Ive never seen GM act like this before. Im in the middle of of a buyback. Get with your General manager , anyone else is just wasting your time. Good luck.

Well right after posting this someone from GM called me, actually said they couldn't believe how bad the pics looked and they were escalating my problem to a "specialist" whatever that means. They are supposed to call me back in a few days. Guess we shall see.

Can you post your pictures for us to view of your rusty frame.

This will help others with knowledge what to look for as well as how to get it fixed properly.

Here are a few, basically every edge, every weld joint, rear cover, big places on the frame.

This is just GM acting like they are surprised and that they haven't seen pictures of 2014 trucks with as much if not more rust on the frame than yours.

If you look thru this thread their are pictures of 2014 trucks with rust covering the entire frame.

There is a TSB out which means they will fix it, if you want it done locally then make sure you tell them when they call you back.

Edit: sorry, this thread, I believe there may be a couple other threads as well.

I like the middle picture, the paper label still looks like new but the frame looks like it is 15 years old. Maybe they should make the frame out of that new kind of paper you have there. Now I'm going to have to check mine out and obsessively worry about it looking like that in a couple months.

Dealer said from the beginning that the rust looks normal, and after contacting GM directly the dealer took pictures a few weeks ago. Still waiting for a solution from the dealer.

And I have to use the clamps seat fix myself because GM doesn't know how to fix it.

That actually looks pretty damn good considering some of the other trucks I've seen. I can see why they didn't want to work on your truck. While it's unreasonable to have rust on any new vehicle, the fact of the matter is your truck (and mine as well) look nothing like the trucks where sheets of the wax coating were just falling off all over the place. Those are the trucks that are getting the full repair done where they strip and re-coat the frame. Your truck will probably just get a once over with some 3M rubberized undercoating like mine did. Basically the middle finger from GM. I've decided to live with it this truck will be long gone before there are every any issues from rust. It's pretty much just a cosmetic issue.

Do they need thicker glasses or are they just plain stupid?

Edit: there is a TSB out telling them how to fix the rust issue, what do they need to talk to GM about. They are just stalling because it's a pain in the ass to tear the truck apart, strip and recoat the frame.

Mine looked like that, I got the 3M undercoat and sprayed over the rust. I don't care anymore because it's going bye-bye anyways.

Here it is on the Chevy media website.

Silverados corrosion protection measures provide superior defense against elements in the environment, whether driving through farm fields, on construction gravel, or down a snow-covered highway, said Mark Yergin, engineering group manager, General Motors Corrosion Engineering and Labs. The new Silverado is our strongest truck yet, affording us the confidence that the truck will continue to meet customers needs throughout its life.

Additional 2014 improvements over previous models include:

All new body structures designed to minimize the potential for corrosion

Improved hem flange sealing on the doors and hood, and additional underbody flange sealing help keep the joints of the truck dry, discouraging deterioration that might occur from moisture

Extensive and improved chassis corrosion protection that enhances the trucks appearance and lengthens the life of underbody components

Anti-chip protection on the lower body side for extra protection from stones or gravel.

Edit: the strange thing is, I haven't been able to find this same info about the 2014 Sierra. On GM's media site I could only find it on the Silverado.
