Need some honest advice on my frame rust issue.

I'm thinking this is a quality control issue. Mine has zero rust. Light spray vs. heavy spray? Sprayed by human or robot painter?

 

At any rate, dealer should media-blast and re-coat under warranty.

Edit: there is a TSB out telling them how to fix the rust issue, what do they need to talk to GM about. They are just stalling because it's a pain in the ass to tear the truck apart, strip and recoat the frame.

You are getting the 3M spray coating(cover up job!), not the TSB fix. The TSB fix takes 72 hours to do. I got the 3M coating as well.

It's the same wax dipped frame coating gm has been using for decades now. My 05 has the same coating as did my 95 zr2 s10 and while my frame is not rusting out it sure looks that way now almost 10 years later. This is more of a cosmetic issue then anything else but lol at gm saying this is some new and improved process.

Latest update, GM contacted the dealer and they gave them up to 48 hours to contact me with a plan, time was up this afternoon, of course no phone call either. The local dealer really don't care.

I found a rust spot on my frame today while looking at the flapper valve thing. Local dealer doesn't like me because I decided to drive to stl to buy mine for 8k cheaper because they wanted 47k for theirs and the only difference was theirs had fender flares, steps, and a bull bar with non-led lights. This'll be fun since they didn't want do my free oil change since the oil meter didn't read below 30 percent but after almost 3 hours it finally got done.

Edit: the strange thing is, I haven't been able to find this same info about the 2014 Sierra. On GM's media site I could only find it on the Silverado.

That's fine but they say "Extensive and improved chassis corrosion protection that enhances the trucks appearance and lengthens the life of underbody components". Chassis includes the frame.

Can't really get too pissed at the dealerships either because they didn't let these trucks out of the factory gates. I could understand completely if it's just a hit or miss thing but most of the trucks I see at dealerships with a build date prior to May 2014 have rust issues.

The dealerships are left to fight a losing battle of trying to make everyone satisfied after GM allowed this to happen. And since it's DoubleCabs and CrewCabs we know that it took a GM executive to make the decision because one plants in Mexico and the others in Indiana.

Final Update, Champion Chevy, my selling dealer in Johnson City TN had my truck all this week and my frame and everything under the truck looks great. Im a very happy guy!! They even did a complete detail job before I picked it up. They had also gave me a new 2015 Silverado to drive from Saturday to Saturday. I now have a perfect truck.

Glad you got your truck fixed up. Had the same problem with my 12/13 build date double cab. When I addressed it with my dealer they did not hesitate to recoat the entire underbody. They went as far to tell me that if it shows back up after this winter they would send it to a local Ziebart shop and coat the entire thing. So far local dealer has been very accomodating to the issues we have had with our trucks. (we bought 2 '14 double cab z71's )
