Solid Front Axle Conversion

Is this a thing for the new '14's yet? Would love to see some pics.

 

Tough to justify dropping $15k+ into such a conversion. But I know there are richer folks than I out there that would.

Never really thought of it as trying to solve a problem. To me, it's just for looks and fitting bigger tires.

It's expensive. And unless you do high steer with hydraulic assist there's no real benefit either. Also they ride poorly.

The way I look at it the only thing you could possibly "need" a SFA for is some serious off road stuff. And for that high steer and hydro assist are no brainers IMO. Not to mention $5k+ of suspension lol.

Ya, you really have to be dedicated into something to do it...for me it's just the "cool factor" that I like about it. That and I like drag racing and would love to enter a tractor pull and not be afraid of grenading my front diff...

 

I know a guy in Alberta that did it for about $2500, built all the parts himself, got diff out of a burnt truck for right cheap...mixed and matched parts. Fabbed his own 4 link, 90% of the cost was coil overs, powder coating and random small parts...that and he owns a shop too so lots of stuff laying around was free. I bet if you did it urself it could be done for $3000 if you did EVERYTHING urself...

I enjoy having stuff that's different...let's face it..hard to be different owning a lifted Duramax [emoji24][emoji24] I really wanna do a SAS just to say I did haha...can't now tho...

I could think of much cheaper ways to be cool. You can get an IROC and a leather jacket for a couple grand for starters ; )

Ya not really into following others just because it's the thing to do or have. I'm not going to buy a diesel unless I need it for towing, which I don't. If I did get a diesel I wouldn't make it roll coal because that's pointless and does nothing to help with performance. Not going to put tow mirrors on a truck unless I tow, which I don't. With what I have towed I've been fine with regular mirrors. I also wouldn't no get something just because it may not look good. People are too into form over function now a days. If I can add something functional while also looking good then great and that's actually what I try to do. But, I'm not going to sacrifice function just for looks.

 

To me a SAS isn't necessary unless you do more than an 8" lift. For one an 8"+ IFS lift looks ugly with the big ass drop brackets and for the money you spend on the IFS lift you probably could have put a SFA under there. If you're going to put that big of a lift on a truck then the ride quality wouldn't really matter. What makes sense to me though is if you're going to be mudding so much and so hardcore to need or want a huge lift then it makes sense to just have an older trucks that doesn't have a computer and already comes with a solid front axle. Plus you can get them cheap and you're not tearing up a nice truck, or in my case, a daily driver. But, I guess to some people that makes too much sense lol. I learned the hard way, trust me.
