Question about front drive shaft

Where the driveshaft meets the transfer case...is that a c/v joint in that boot? The shaft doesn't just slide out of the transfer case like I expected it too. Once the boot started stretching I just left it in for fear of tearing the boot.

So the boot is clamped on to the transfer case? I can't envision how that works mechanically.

I just checked mine. It's currently out as well as my tranny cause of a cracked flexplate. Basically the boot is clamped around the output of the transfer case and on the drive shaft. When you pop the boot clamp off the t-case and pull the driveshaft forward, the boot will come off still attached to the drive shaft. There is no mechanism involved with the boot. The driveshaft slides into the transfer case unlike the rear drive shaft that slides over that transmission output shaft. Use a flathead screw driver to pop the clamp up and you will see exactly how it slides off. Hope this helps! I'll try to post some photos up tonight as well.
