replacing brake light switch

I just replaced the brake light switch on my 08 GMC sierra hoping it would fix not working cruise control problem. still not working , there is a engine icon lite on. I didn't disconnect battery to do job. should I have. Is there any adjustment I should also do. Any help would be appreciated . Thanks for your time.

Sounds like the check engine light is the issue of your cruise control not working. Have it scanned for codes.

didnt have a check engine light when it was my brake light switch, have the light checked, thats probably your issue.
