55" TV Options

If you want bass add a sub-woofer not a sound bar. Sound bars aren't really known for their "sound" either. The price you'd pay to get a decent one would probably be the price for a receiver and front speakers which would sound better than the sound bar.

Yeah after I buy my tv, thats what the plan is to. What would you recommend? Without breaking the bank,

Whats breaking the bank? You can get a decent price receiver with 2 bookshelf speakers and a sub or go for a 5.1 system.

My house is 5.1. 4 speakers built in all i had to do was a sub, center, and receiver

I just don't wanna go over $500 in audio. What does your setup look like?

As others have stated, your best bet is to buy a nice(er) receiver first. You can get bookshelf speakers cheap, and a self powered sub. With a nice receiver, it'll be sufficeint. Then as you get funds, move up to a couple front tower speakers, then some nice surrounds. I started with a sony receiver (model can't remember) 7 channel, multiple hdmi, 3d capable, for around 350. Some random speakers I had laying around for starters. Bought a Klipsch quintet 5 speaker bookshelf set for about 200. Later added the klipsch 10" self powered sub around 300 <<< massive improvement, only ever set it at 1/2 level and still shakes everything. Am in process of looking for a nice set of front tower speakers.

Or another option is a home theater system in a box. Receiver, 5 speakers and a powered sub. There is about $500 in audio just in this pic. But the ceiling speakers were in the house when i moved in

Here is my ceiling speakers

I also have 2 ceiling speakers on my front porch and 2 on the back porch on separate volume controls

My receiver was about $220. It is a Yamaha RX-V377. 5.1 channel with 4 HDMI in/1 out. 3D and 4K pass through

Sub and center channel were less than $300 together. They are pioneer. Granted i bought them at the Best Buy and not online.

This is my current setup, if I get a bigger tv we might wall mount it or bigger stand. As you can see I had no where to put my PS4 hardy.

Now I have been thinking about getting this Vizio E600i-B3. Now a lot of great reviews.

It's an LG 47" I got it in Feb 2012. It has 3 HDMI inputs.

One thing to be careful of if you do go for the "Home Theater in a Box" option is those sets sometimes run on a different impedance so changing out pieces of it as you "upgrade" can result in worse sounding or unsatisfactory results.

As far as recommendations. Stay away from home theaters in box and sound bars. Even with the $500 stated budget it's hard as things are on sale and with sales prices can fluctuate $100-$500. I saved over $100+ on my receiver alone. I can't really recommend any speakers by brand either since 4 out of my 7.1 system are 15-20 years old. I like JBL/Infinity brand, but only have experience with them on car audio and would take that over my stupid bose crap any day. The Bic-F12 seems to be a highly rated sub especially when it goes on sale for >$300. I like my Yamaha receiver even if the stupid on screen volume adjustment is dumb and blocks the bottom of the screen. Yamaha also is supposed to have a good reputation across the price ranges. Mine has been going strong for over 4+ years now.

I'm running a cheap ($250) pioneer receiver, Polk front, boston surrounds and sub. Sounds good. Want to move the Polk fronts to the sides and go with Polk floor speaker eventually. But the sound with this setup is great.

I listened to all the speakers at the store and the polks sounded best. But my laptop is JBL and it's by far the best sound I've heard from a laptop.

Thanks for the replies/answers guys. Guess, I'll go with that route instead of home threatre in a box.
I was gonna get a 55" TV. This 60" isn't that bad, I just hope its not that big.

Seems like the picture is really good. So, thats why I was considering it, even great on games low on the lag.
Looks like you're getting a great deal, while the only bad thing is the audio. But that can be upgraded. No big deal.
