55" TV Options

About 6 months ago I bought the Sharp Aquos LC 60EQ10U which is a 60" LED with 240 hz, 4 HDMI, 2 USB with 20w built in speakers. I had a 55" LG Plasma it replaced and the Sharp has a better picture. It is about $1200 so would be a little higher than you want but is worth it.

Not sure if you mean "live with it" as settling or not. The site you linked (nice site by the way) has it as an editors choice pick, for price anyway, but it does have an 87/100 overall rating. The others listed for 2014 55" models are also 87 or 88/100. And the LG is the most comparable one, but only has 3 HDMI ports.

 

There will always be a better option out there. Just depends on how much you want to spend. Given the requirements in the initial post, it seems like a good buy. I would definitely recommend seeing it in person first to see how it works/looks/performs..

After I workout today, I'm gonna swing by Wal-Mart and check em out. I would like to have a Samsung though, since they are the best.

Save your money for the OLED. If you just can't wait, plasma offers the next best picture quality.

If you haven't found one yet just watch slickdeals and you'll see something on sale quite often. You can even sign up and have alerts for keywords. $1k for a tv is a good amount of money especially for a 55". I've seen 60 & 65s on sale for under $1k. If you're planning on building yourself a surround system your receiver will have hdmi ports as well. Mine has either 4 or 6 in and 1 out. Just something to keep in mind if you find a great tv but it lacks the number of inputs you require.

This weekend, I'm going to Best Buy to look at some tvs and see what I can find of.

Plasmas still have burn in on certaiin models.

I'm probably gonna add a sound bar at least to my TV, so I can have more bass. Anything bigger than 55" would be too big, imo.

The $300 or whatever you would spend on a soundbar would be better spent on a surround sound receiver. You can start with just a receiver and a couple front speakers. Then grow the system as you have the money. Add a center channel, buy bigger front speakers and move the originals to the sides, add a sub, all when you have money to blow. I can't handle listening to movies or playing games without it now.

I came so close making the Vizio M552i- B2 55" as my final pick, but reading some reviews on here and stuff. I'm now slowly steering away from it. The Samsung UN55H6350 is getting my vote now. I would like to upgrade to it. Such a hard decision.

If you are not in New York, no sales tax either. So at your Wal-mart you're looking at $1080 (assuming 8% sales tax) and on ebay $890. $200 cheaper. You lose the convenience of having a local store if issues come up though. But for $109 (3 yr) or $149 (4 yr) you can get a square trade warranty that covers just about every possible issue. They send a tech to you to fix or replace (free), or you can pick your own place and they reimburse you. You'd still save money over in store purchase. More for surround sound fund.... If you want bass add a sub-woofer not a sound bar. Sound bars aren't really known for their "sound" either. The price you'd pay to get a decent one would probably be the price for a receiver and front speakers which would sound better than the sound bar.
