55" TV Options

Well, its time for a new tv. I'm looking for a 55" TV. I currently have a 42" LG LCD that is almost 4 years old. I recently moved into a real nice apartment in July. The tv I have now is great, but seems a little small for my new place. So. I'm gonna get a new one. I had a Vizio before, it was a 32" its about 7 years old, but its been great one. Sold it to my friend. So, Vizio has been good to me. Once we get our new tv, the 42" we have currently, will be moved upstairs in the bedroom.


I'm looking for a 55", 4 HDMI ports, LED, least 240 HZ. and it doesn't have to be a smart tv. I got plenty of apps I can use via Xbox One. Each port will be used, Direct TV, Xbox One. PS4 and a future sound bar or surround sound system.
My price range will is $1,000 max or I could bump it up a few hundreds. I know thats not much really. Gonna get a Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio or something thats does real good. I also game a lot and watch sports and movies. Wish I could afford a 4K tv, but those are very nice in person, but too much. I would like to keep it under a $1K at most.

So, gonna be hard to find one with my price range. That does very well. What does everyone else has or would recommend? Thanks guys.

I own 4 Samsung televisions. I really like their tvs and the quality is there. When we we moved into our new house I ordered a 60" smart, 3d plasma from ABT Electronics on the web. I paid like $900, got a blu Ray player, free shipping and no tax. Anyway, they run some good deals.

I'd highly recommend Samsung; I've owned 3 and have never had an issue. I'll be looking for a new tv to mount over my fireplace in the new house coming February. I've also always had LED tv's, others prefer plasma instead?

LED is what you want... But there's really no need for 240hz. You can find sub-240 55" LED sets for around $500. To me the picture isn't all that important and I spent the money on surround sound instead.

Plasmas are good TV's. They have a much higher refresh rate and the contrast ratio is typically up in the millions. If you want the latest and greatest, go OLED.

Can you price me one under 55" that is oled, that is under $1K? Just having a tough time, which one to pick.

We picked up a 55" Samsung at Costco for $850 this summer. Only problem for you is that it only has two HDMI ports. But for us it didn't matter. I run everything through our receiver anyway.

Unfortunately, OLED 55" cheapest is LG at $3500.00.

 

But Vizio does have a 50" 4k tv for $999.99. Not a whole lot out there in the way of 4k viewable media yet though. It is 240hz 5 hdmi ports smart tv. As others have stated, is 240hz necessary? not really. Is 4k necessary yet? not really. But do what makes you happy in your purchase. It is a hell of a blow to the overinflated tv market putting this tv out at <$1k though. Will drive prices down though, and that's always good.

Wow, I definitely can't afford OLED, that price is insane!
4K wouldn't be too bad, still don't wanna fork that much out.

That Vizio is a good one. Given the price range and stats you're looking for, it will fit the bill. M series vs E series> E is budget series, still a great series. M has higher contrast, refresh rate and some more features. There is nothing wrong with the E series 55 you listed. I actually found that TV for a coworker a couple weeks ago as he had about the same requirements you have. He has not had a complaint yet. I have my eyes on a Vizio TV to replace mine when the time comes (soon hopefully). They are a great brand that is not cheaper because of quality but because they do a lot of in house production and engineering that saves cost. They routinely get great reviews online.

 

As for the Sanyo, I'm not sure about the brand when there is better name brand TV's at about the same price point. Just my opinion though.

I forgot about 4k. I don't think I've even seen one. I just wandered into best buy to look at phone cases the other day and stared at oled tvs.

I think so far that my one of my final picks. Does Wal-Mart carry the M series?
