On the way to work this a.m., overcast sky, dash lights dimly on. Then there on full blast, and rotary switch has no control at all. On way home everything normal, anyone else experience this?

At 1st your headlights were on which is why dash lights were dim and adjustable. Once it switched, your headlights were off and the dash lights switched to the brighter day time unadjustable lighting. It caught me off guard a couple times too. lol

Thanks Superdave. Very good explanation, even I could understand.

On overcast days it can definitely trick the sensor into thinking it's dark enough to need the lights on. Heck, my wife's Honda will sometimes trigger the lights when the car drives through some shade or the sun goes behind a cloud. Lights are going to look on from the outside even if they aren't since they are also the daytime running lights.

Last generation was like this too. I had a new Yukon again as a rental this week and I noticed that the delay before lights turn off after you enter a bright area is much longer now. I passed through a tunnel which of course turned on the lights. I exited into bright sunlight and it seemed like a few minutes before they turned off. My 2011 is definitely less than a minute in the same situation.
