Sealing tailgate area?

Has anyone successfully sealed their tailgate area? The top 3-4 inches there is a HUGE gap between the box and tailgate if you look in there when it's closed, there is no way the seal I got is big enough to seal it.

I got it fairly close - or as close as I think you can get it but using door and window weather stripping. I used the tallest and widest I could find (3/4 x 5/8) and it had enough high that when I closed the tailgate I needed to compress the seal a little bit. Once it stuck down, I left the tailgate closed to let it form to shape and it's got a fairly tight seal. Don't get any moisture though but a little fine dust still does fine it's way in.

The other bonuses is I got the white stripping so it isn't so obtrusive as a black seal on a white truck, and the price is about a quarter of the cost of an actual tailgate seal.

Nice, Good idea! I going to have to get some of that. I put one of the popular brands tailgate seal and it did nothing to keep gravel road dust out. I think the front, rear, and underneath by the led lights need to be sealed?

Yes. That's one of my big peeves about GM trucks since the GMT900. 8 Large holes under the bed rail, so that it's easier for them to make the part. After nearly a hundred years of making trucks, we get this???? No other maker does this. In a modern truck, it's common to put a tonneau cover or topper on the bed and even carpet the bed. Why would GM do this on a customer satisfaction issue? If the GM customer service folks are reading this, where is our solution?

Currently, the only commercially available solution, that I'm aware of, is the foam blocks stuffed in the holes, in the Agricover Trail Seal kit. A half-assed solution at best.

I believe the gaps are used for aerodynamics. Read something about that prior to the gmt900 trucks debut.

Yes, and the reason I used this kit before installing Bedrug and BakFlip VP...not great but good enough
