'02 Trailblazer EXT Jack

Ok, I'll probably take a bashing for this question, and I feel like an idiot, but here it is: How do you remove the jack from the storage compartment in the back in an '02 Trailblazer EXT?

My wife and I had a flat tire a couple of weeks ago, and I went to change it but could not get the jack out of the compartment. I pulled and pulled on it until the plastic inside the compartment started to warp but it would not come out.

We ended up calling AAA and they brought their own floor jack to change it.

I was going to go to the dealer and have them show me, but I figured I would ask here first.

Anybody had to remove their's yet?

Thanks.

If it is like mine try this:  The jack is rubber banded to tow wheel chocks.  They all come out together.  The jack is sitting in a "frame" made out of a tubular steel.  The frame is attached, snapped into, the plastic.  The frame does not come out.  There should be a plastic knob around the spot where you would insert the crank handle.  Turn this knob counter-clockwise to "lower" the jack.  After you have lowered the jack sufficiently it will slip out of that tubular frame with the wheel chocks still attached by the big rubber band.

Good Luck

Thanks Wxman, I did not see a knob to turn to get it out, that must be why I could not do it. I was pulling on the jack and the metal frame figuring it would just "snap out". I'll look for that knob tonight. :thumb:

is it a bottle jack?

I have no idea how it would use the one that came with my truck.  It sucks and i dont think it could even lift the truck its so small.  My fix was to buy a 3 ton craftsman floor jack and carry that around (the handle is removable and its the extra lift suv model).
