The people that cant tell the differents in power must have gone from 373, 342 gear to a 308. As far as gas millage Im running E85, in the summer with out warm ups I get 15 MPG in town, on gas close to 18. On the last trip I took I got 22 MPG at 72 MPH, with 342 gear. My last 5.3 got 18 on the HWY and was a dog, Im loving it.

If my google searches are accurate, an '08 5.3 produced 315 hp which is awful close to the 320 of my work tahoe. So you are saying that your 315 hp / 4.10 combo performs almost identical to your 355 hp / 3.42 combo in power and fuel economy? Do you notice any difference in power during normal commuting?

Ultimately this ^^ is what I'm trying to decide in my mind. That being, if I effectively lower the 3.42 gear ratio of a 2015 by running 33s or even 34s, will it perform at least as well as my current stock tahoe, or will it be even worse and leave me dissappointed? I wouldn't be overwhelmed with my current level of performance but I could live with it. If it is going to be worse, hunting for gears and kicking out of V4 all the time, then I will just order a max tow. I don't run a lot of interstate, maybe once a year, so I dont think gas mileage will suffer much with the 3.73s. But, it seems logical that a ~5% increase in tire size should at least be offset by an 11% increase in hp.

I'd love to have the 6.2l, but I'm pushing my budget as it is and I certainly don't want to be restricted to $$ premium fuel on top of it.

Yup pretty much the same power and fuel economy. The 08 also was working with a 4 spd auto. The throttle tip in was better on the 08 that said if I put my foot to the floor the 08 would barely spin the tires, the 14 will smoke the tires. If you can get a real good deal on a 900t go for it. Sure the interior is way nicer on the K2XX but they also cost a lot more. The new ecotech is kinda underwelming.I also don't like how much they have to crank over too start ,seems like a step back.Real world torque no real differance.

Our 2012 5.3 averaged around 18 mpg, our 2014 averages a little over 21mpg which is a great improvement! Didn't notice too much of a change in power till I ran a few tanks of E85 which pepped it up quite a bit.

My truck does live in the real world of towing and I live in the mountains of BC.I've seen the easy flat lands a lot of you are from you would never get that kind of fuel economy where I;m from. Was in Thunderbay Ontario last year with my buddy and we drove to Chicago, maybe one rolling hill in Minnisota or Wisconson that the suburban of my buddy's had to down shift to get over.

Keep in mind the 4 speed vs the 6 speeds when talking rear ratios. 3.73 in one is different final drives than in the other. My 07 5.3 is not as powerful as wife's 14...both have the regular 3.42 gears. Now my 07 and the 14 5.3 3.08 I once had....more similar power but the 14 towed better.
