license plate bulb covers

Lately i have been seeing some 01 or 02 trucks and 03 trucks with black license plate bulb covers.  Mine are all chrome

no i am holding out.  I dont feel like spending the $$$ (why am i being cheap?).

Mine are chrome too...  I wonder if it is part of the appearance package or something...  I think they tie in well with the chrome bumper though. (except for the rust I just noticed).

Mine are black and I believe it has to do with what year the truck is IMO cause I have an LS and I see other LS with chrome ones I think the black one were one of them GM cost savers. I have an 02 by the way. Actually I can see the trend I bet in 02 they started using the black ones instead correct me if I am wrong.

For chevy I think its a trim thing.  Base models are black and anything up from that is chrome.  I'll have to check, but my two friends that have GMC's 2003 GMC 3500 D/A SLT has black and the 2002 GMC Z71 SLT has black as well.....so maybe all GMC's use black?

the dozen or so trucks i have seen have been LS and LT models with the black covers

My '01 1500 and my '03 2500HD (both LT) have chrome.

Hmmm... looks like there might not be a reason as to why some are black and some are chrome.  Might just be one of those parts that are used for any model...just depends whats on the shelf during  build time....

chrome, but I dented one, and it's not quite straight.. so it's either getting fixed and painted or replaced.. black sounds mcuh better..

My '99 GMC SLE has chrome. My truck has the "Chrome Apperance" package. Maybe thats it. ???
