You haven't heard loud fighters until you have heard a pair of F-106's take off in staggered tandem. Full afterburners at night is quite the spectacle. At one time I lived off base, 6 miles from the active runway. When the tandem 106's would take off, the Windows in my house would vibrate/rattle.

One time I was just off the end of the overrun of a 3 mile long runway. A pair of 106's taking off at the other end of the runway. No problem right? Wrong! These guys lifted off and were hauling azz just off the deck and buzzed my azz. Bastards!

The fighter jocks were cool, bomber & tanker jocks, not so much.

At Yokota AFB in the sixties, I'd ride my bike to the far end of the runway at dusk and watch the F-4s take off. Often, they'd take off in pairs. 4 J79s in AB make a good bit of noise and long blue flames with shock rings.
