Ok I got to thinking after watching arrmaggedon tonight.  If something was to happen to EARTH like an asteroid hitting us etc. would the US not be the ones who would take the initiative to save everyone?  People are so anti-american but then when something important actually needs to be done (help others) the US will do it.  It seems like a no win situation.  Cant make anyone happy

My guess would be because it is such a great place to live in comparison to the rest of the world . Another thing might be that people in other nations think that we put our noses where they dont belong .

Some people in other parts just dont like the idea of freedom

You musta missed todays Oprah, just about that, it was LIVE too

This guy(candidly) interviewed all these Muslims, and the all basically said the same thing:

(paraphrase, but if anyone else saw it, you can back me up)

Keep you nose out of our business. Americans have to get involved in everything, just stay out and shut up. 9/11 was your wake up call, a punch in the nose. It was bad because the innocent was killed, but it was needed t show the Americans.

Then they showed a clip from "Bowling for Columbine" that has some interesting facts. Did you know America "helped" assassinate the leader of South Vietnam, right before the war started?

Who initially trained Osama, you wonder? THE CIA!!!!! to help topple a foreign government!!!

Two times America has helped overthrown democratically elected foreign leaders and placed dictators in power.

Yeah, this info stunned me too. I'm still for this war, but we too must realize that even America can cross the line. We just can't let it happen again!

It all boils down to our freedoms and the way the maority of Americans live  their lives.

People who hate us are jealous because we can live so many ways, our women can show their faces without  worrying about being stoned  to death.

We can actually choose who we marry.

Those Americans who disagree with our leaders aren't executed in the street.

Whereas those who live under Tyrants like Saddam, are forced  into a "My way or die" situation.

While us Americans can do about anything we #### well please. And not have to look over our backs.

And folks, That's why I'm glad to be where I am.

Well we are the ones to go to if it's an asteroid is going to destroy the ear, a series of earthquakes that could destroy the earth, or if aliens are going to destory the earth.  we have the know-how to get these things done....

But in all seriousness, we established outselves as a major power in the world after WWII.  Since then, we have been the "go-to" country that can help out whether it be in overthrowing a dictator or depositing several thousand dollars into a foreign economy in order to influence it.  As for why so many people don't like us??  It's because they can't live in the US and experience the greatness it has to offer.  I know I will never be an enemy of the United States, that's one risk I will never take! :flag:

Osama Bin Laden has been saying all along in those  stupid al-Jazeera tapes that he was out to get America because of our Freedoms. 9/11 would've still happened whether or not we would have kept our noses out of other folks business.

We didn't "Train Osama to overthrow an elected foreign government" At the time the USSR was trying to invade Afghanistan and we supplied weapons, food, and training to the country to help defend themselves against the incoming, and very well equipped Russian military.

After that small war or military conflict was over, we did what all of those fanatical muslims wanted us to do, we didn't stick our noses in their business after helping them. We left the region to them to do what they pleased, after we helped keep it FREE FOR THEM. After we left them to their devices, they adopted the Taliban and their oppressive regime and their fanatical beliefs. The majority there let the things that happened to them happen. Wasnt our fault at all.

We were just keeping our noses out of their business.

I have an opinion or question that kind of goes along with this thread so I'll post it now. I hear alot of people, even myself say "Why do we send billions of dollars to these other countries when we have way too many people starving, homeless, no health insurance etc... right here in America." But we send so much money to other countries that could care less about us. But in the back of my mind I really wonder that if we wouldnt have sent out all of that money to other countries, would 9/11 have happened a lot sooner than it did? Just my .02

You are probably right. The stance the world has with the USA is peculiar at best. Damned if we do and Damned if we don't. Granted if all the years that we did do something were changed to years that we didn't we would still be a target for somone because then it would be: "How come the USA didn't help?"

I got into a debate with a guy over on the board I moderate a few days ago. Hes one of those guys that thinks if we don't help we're bad, and when we do help we're bad. He was mad that in WW2 that we didn't immediately go to Europe and whip up on Hitler, and hes mad now that we're going in to whip up on Saddam. But hes mad that we didn't go back in 91 when the UN didn't want us to to whip up on Saddam.

With people like him, its a no win situation for the USA. And there are thousands upon thousands like him with that opinion.

Alas, we shall have to remain the "Police" of the world until the rest of the world grows a set and decides to pitch in.
