What service information do you have ?

Do you have an exhaust back pressure gauge ?

Have you any auto service tech courses , fuel injection , etc etc etc ?

If not , good luck to you ,

im not being a dick , only a realist as to the complexity of these veh's and your odd thread requests , strange really imo

Same truck and same problems, although mine has regular maintenance.

Seafoam every couple of tanks at this age. The fuel filter is easy to change and less than 10 bucks.

Plugs and wires are a must! The insulation losses it's ability and you arc out on the motor. Look at it at night and you may be able to see it, cool test but replace them all regardless.

My problem was the mass air flow sensor.

I found a cheep generic online and it's still holding strong after a year.

I don't remember the code I got by number, but it was lean in 2 banks. I thought I was going to end up with cats and 02s bc I had a rattle in the cat. So far so good! Just the sensor.

Govtech, you are absolutely right that it's a strange request lol but I figure since the truck is damn near junk, why nit tinker with it. I personally learn best when I do things hands on. And these vehicles are very complex which is why I want to tear into it and learn.

Try a smoke machine to check for vac or air leaks. I'd replace the tb and intake manifold gaskets. Like others said GM plugs. Wires, coils. I'd do seafoam or have the dealer do a fuel system treatment. I'd change the cats and 02 sensors. You really need to follow the codes (sorry) i'd clean the MAF and TB. Also change the fuel filter. Checking the fuel pressure wouldn't hurt either, if its running like crap it may not be getting the right amount or fuel/air. Good luck

servantsalesman - the recommendations are on the right track, I have a 01 Tahoe, similar engine, not as many miles. Along with a tune-up, some emisions work will do these engines well. You started with the MAF, I would recommend to finish the emissions trail with replacing the EGR, IAC, TPS, PCV, and clean the throttle body. All listed parts were purchased from Rock Auto for around 250 bucks and took about 90 minutes to replace.
