It isnt a safety issue so no recall

Its a pathetic error. You don't have to have a saftey issue for a recall. Happens all the time when a manufacturer finds a problem with a product then deem to support and fix it.

Enough people come in saying their truck freely revs past the redline then it will het fixed

I think they should fix it, but really if you have an auto it's not that big of a deal if it's 2-300 off on the gauge.

 

What's ironic is that my first truck/vehicle was a manual and didn't have an RPM gauge while my last truck and current truck both autos have an RPM gauge.

Recall is only for safety issues. If GM were so inclined, they'd issue a "service campaign" or something similar and address it. But this is pointless to take any action on. Look at the fullsizes which haven't had a red line on the tach since prior to the 800-series.
