wiring 2014 Suburban 1500 LT

My 2014 Suburban LT 1500 didn't come with Homelink in the roof console. Although the roof console has the mount for the Homelink transmitter there is no pigtail for the Homelink. Since Homelink is in many GM truck roof consoles, the wire loom feeds all of female connectors comming in. However the male connector that plugs in does not have a homelink pigtail commming out, but does have unused pin locations.

A Homelink has three wires: a 12v lead, a ground lead and an accessory lighting lead. Although Chevrolet Parts has no pigtail to retrofit a Homelink, it should be a simple matter to utilize the male connector's unused pin locations ... but which ones?

Does anyone have a GM diagram for the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban roof console wire loom that identifies the pin connections? Thanks to anyone who has any information.

Thanks, Bob, for the alldata.com website. I'm trying to figure it out right now, but it seems a bit complex to get to the source for information. I'm surprised the site only goes to 2013 Chevy Suburban, but figure '13 and 14 should be pretty much the same. Tried to submit their mailing list but keep getting sent to error page so will call them tomorrow.

Aaaa ... try the Veal????

Are you able to ID colors of the unused wires in the connector of your Suburban?

Grounds are usually black/white stripe, or solid black

Power usually red, red/white stripe

Lights usually tan.

Power could be found and verified with a test lamp, same for interior lights.

If you can ID the connector Mouser is a good source for terminals.

If you need to ID the opener leads and the are in a numbered connector:

1 power

2 lights

3 ground

Thanks for the information.

Yes, from what I can see, the colors from the feed loom are there and I'll need the connectors for the overhead wire junction to feed the homelink GDO. The Homelink has three wires which on testing I believe to be; orange (12v), green (12v accessory light) and brown/white trace (-/grnd).

I just went to the Mouser site and will need to search for the insert pin connectors to connect wires to the harness. I'm miffed that GM doesn't sell the separate components like the harness and blank cover with the cutouts for the components. You have to buy the whole console w/components and, according to the GM parts schematics, you still might not get the harness for it … makes no sense. Unless there something GM did with the computers that read the ohms loads.

That's why I'm a little paranoid that connecting the wires to the Homelink may send some kind of weird ohms signal to the computers that there's an imbalance somewhere and screw something else up … POS computers again! I'm trying it anyway.

I checked the roof console main harness and it has a 16 pin connector. Checking it with a multimeter found only one ground at Pin 8 which is black (- grnd); Pin 9 is red/white trace (12v switched ign) and pin 11 is brown/white trace (12v dash lights). With exception of the ground, the other two leads are unused and seem dedicated for a Homelink type of device.

The Homelink I have is a '95-'05 Silverado/Sierra. Its wiring code leads test out just as you described: 1 orange (12v ign), 2 green (12v lighting), and 3 purple/yellow trace (- grnd). I'll be connecting these wires to their respective harness terminals.

I do have one concern though. The ground connection of the harness terminal has the interior dome lights and passenger airbag seat on/off switch on the same ground terminal that I will be connecting the Homelink ground lead to. What I'm wondering is if there might be some effect of three grounds on the passenger airbag switch. Logic dictates the dome light switch has no ill effect when you turn it on or off, so why would the Homelink GDO switch have any effect.

I'd appreciate your thoughts Zebrafive and anyone else that might care to comment. Thanks.

If you can post a picture of the connector I might be able to help find the terminal part numbers.

Service connector (pigtail) p/n for the 2014 Suburban factory homelink transmitter is 13505907. 3 wire, red/white for B+, brown/white is Instrument Panel Lamp Dimming Control, black for ground.

I'm posting a similar connector I pulled from the internet. If you need a better shot of the terminal, I can pull the console and take a shot of mine, but they are all pretty much look the same.

I'll be installing two pins in the terminal and will probably splice into the ground wire the way the factory seems to have done with the passenger side air bag ground wire.

Thanks for the PN. But I wondering if the part is a 3 wire 6 foot retro fit pigtail. The parts diagram GM provides doesn't make any sense and the quote 65 for the part. Are you familiar with the part?

I would imagine that its like every other pigtail we order and its about a foot or so worth of lead. Definitely not 6 feet. They are basically service connectors for repair.

Connector looks like Delphi 13516907

It uses terminals 15304701-L for 20ga and smaller wires and 15304702-L for 18ga wire.

My guess is the pigtail 13505907 is to plug to the homelink unit. Service connectors usually have only about 6" wire s and usually they are all the same color, such as all white.

Thanks for all the information. I just checked Mouser and they have 15304702-L in stock, so I'll have to order them. My Homelink came with connector and long leads for a comfortable connection, so won't need the the GM part.

On another subject, the center floor console has a USB port that doesn't provide enough power to charge a laptop. In the owners manual they refer to the 110 VAC 150w option, but my Suburban doesn't have it. Do you think it would cause a problem if I hard wire a 110VAC 150watt inverter to the back of one of the power outlets?

As cheap as they are I would also get 15304701-L terminals, in case your wires are smaller than 18ga. The $4.99 shipping fee will be the big expense.

For the Inverter, it should not be a problem if fused properly. I would wire from X14 of the under dash junction block. Pin 2 is a 15A battery feed, pin 5 is a 30A battery feed. Only thing to remember is these are battery feeds, so you can't leave something connected or ON that would drain the battery if the truck is OFF.

Oops, I am not sure if your 2014 has the same junction block that I referred to above. They are used in 2007-2013. Unsure about 2014s since the changed body styles
