2014 LTZ Seats

Is it just me or do the LTZ vented and heated seats suck. I've had my truck since Thanksgiving and for the life of me I can not get comfortable. The bottom part seems fine but the backrest part just ain't working for me. It seems that the top section of seat is a firmer foam , I know that the center section holds the heater and the vented part. As I sit in the truck the upper section just hits me wrong and is causing a great deal of pain in my upper back between my shoulders. Its not bad for a quick trip but I'm in my truck all day and its been a real drag to think I have a new expensive truck that I'm not wanting to drive due to the seats and the pain its causing.

I've been thinking of taking the seat out and remove the leather cover and shave some foam down a bit to reduce what I feel as a bump in the seat. Its not a bump but more so the angle of the foam which if you lean back into the seat it pushes your cheat out which put the pressure on your shoulder blades. I think if I can remove about a inch of foam , taper it to the top of the seat and contour it a bit and it might just work .

At first I was looking at the new Colorado but went with the Silverado instead , the Colorado has seats that are the same as my wife's Equinox and her seats are very comfortable. Maybe I bought the wrong damn truck.

Has anybody else experience the same thing and if so what did you do to fix it, and yes I have adjusted the seats six ways to Sunday and nothing works.

Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated.

My seats are fine with me. I really don't like to use the "cool" feature, but that's just me, it works fine. They adjust 10 ways and have the memory feature. I love 'em.

Try experimenting with various size thickness of foam temporarily secured to the back rest until you find something that feels right, then have it professionally modified. I like my seats but everyone is different.

I found adjusting the lumbar back resolved many of my tail bone issues.

I am wagging happy now.

No tail bone issues , and for me with a fused lower back the lumbar stays in the neutral position.

Dentdave, your experience describes my experience EXACTLY. Traded in my 2003 Silverado 1500HD crew cab for a new 2015 Silverado 2500HD crew cab just the other day. My back is not adjusting whatsoever to the new seats, no matter what position combo I dial up. I'd be curious to find out what you end up doing.

Have you guys adjusted the lumbar support? The first thing I did when I picked up my truck was adjust the distance from the pedals & steering wheel, the height of the seat and then I locked in the lumbar. Took maybe 5 minutes. Now if your overweight like my father use to be. It's always a challenge to feel comfortable in vehicle seats.

I found I had to play with both the lumbar inflation and the angle of the seatbottom (the front was tipped up to much for my liking) as well as get the right combination of seat fore aft and steering wheel fore aft.

So this morning I was hell bent on tearing apart my seat and seeing what I might be able to do. Instead of taking the whole seat out I was able to remove the leather cover and foam from the seat while in the truck.

The seat comes apart fairly easy if you take your time, remove the headrest and once you have the back off the cover is held on with plastic hooks the connect to the frame of the seat , then the cover attaches to the foam by way of a blue plastic track that snaps into a orange piece the foam . then you have to unhook a strap that goes around the air bag. Then I found it easier to unbolt and disconnect the wire for the air motor and then unplug the wire at the bottom for the heater. Then just wiggle and puul the foam over the headrest post and wa la the foam is out.

Once out and laying on the table I think you can see that the foam has a small little part at the top to level out the area due to the air/ heated part, the part that was bothering me was just above that where I'm pointing. So I took out my angle grinder with a sanding disc and proceeded to grind away some foam, after several test fits and about a half inch of foam ground away I put it all back together just to take it apart one more time. One thing I noticed was there is a small metal round bar that goes up and round the seat for support and I'm not sure yet but that might need to be bent back a tad.

The seat went back together ok but the blue peice that snaps into the orange piece is a bit of a pain to get snapped back together , once everything was back in the seat looks normal as if nothing was ever done. It feels better but I won't know for sure till I take it out for about a 30-45 minute ride. I will post back soon my findings, if this works and your not comfortable doing this type of repair I'm sure a local upholstery shop can handle it .

By the way I'm by no means a auto upholstery guy , I do Paintless Dent Repair for a living. My only experience with this type of work would be tearing apart several motorcycle seats over the years to make them fit me better. Sometimes you just have to dive into it and try it and not be afraid of messing it up.The only bad thing about doing it this way is there is no putting it back but only to replace the seat foam from Chevy.

Wow... no, I'm not that bold, or bold enough, to take on that challenge for fear of permanently damaging a perfectly "good" seat. I happen to live in the Indianapolis area, and there is a dealership that caters heavily to the professional sports team's (Indiana Pacers & Indianapolis Colts), both of which naturally have tall and/or large players. I had my truck back into this dealer today, and one of the managers relayed to me that they have provided current model vehicles with the same seats to both Andrew Luck (Colts quarterback, around 6'4") and Paul George (Pacers guard, around 6'7"), and they are completely satisfied. So if they are fine with it (and I am 6'7'', just like Paul George), then I should be fine with it. The manager then went on to relay that this particular seat model (and I don't recall which option code it is) is the absolute best seat available, bar none, and that if you can't be comfortable in this seat, then there is no seat for you. He further relayed to me that GM takes into account a vast range of body sizes & types when developing their seats, and ergonomics in general. This made complete sense to me, and as I thought about it further, it would be very short-sided of GM to devise such an ill-fitting seat that would only work for someone say 5'10" or so. Nonetheless, I came away from my time at the dealership today feeling better, and feeling confident that I just need to find that sweet spot, whatever it is, that works for me. Though, now that I have aggravated my back with incorrect settings, it might take a few days for it to settle down... something that might be hard to do as I'm still fiddling with settings that may not be dialed in correctly for a while. If I do get to the point where I think something more aggressive is required (i.e., shaving off pieces/surfaces), I will take it somewhere. Thanks for sharing, nonetheless, and hope it works out for all who are going through this. BTW, the lumbar support is not a factor in this, as it affects areas lower in the back. As dentdave initially described, it feels like the forward-leaning part of the upper seat pushes your shoulders/back in at the wrong spot, thus causing the mid-back area to protrude backward, thus causing the discomfort. This is above the lumbar area.

Well after being in and out of my truck all day I would say I made about a 50% improvement. I still have pain in my right shoulder and still think it the seat or the reach to the steering wheel ( which is not centered it the truck to the seat ). Anyways I'll keep messing with it and see if it gets any better.

My ltz bucket seats actually got loose and I took it in to the dealer they told me there was nothing wrong and they got loose again and I took it in and they told me there was a recall thing for it
