Transfer Case Noise

I'm getting a ticking noise from near my transfer case sometimes when I put my truck in 4WD. It becomes louder and faster as speed increases. I put it on a lift today and started looking, it was very difficult but finally think I found the area. I used a stethoscope with probe and found the noise to be the loudest on my manual 4WD shifter cable. Putting the probe on the linkage past the cable it's much quieter. Last night it wouldn't come out of it, finally on my way home from where I put it on a lift it stopped.

Clear AS MUD

"Loudest on shifter cable" makes ZERO sense ..... Since you have steel linkage not a cable .

Post an audio clip or forget it , noises and the Internet are an oxymoron , sorry

OK, I didn't realize what the cable was. I'm thinking it's actually what goes through the floor and connects to the seat belt.

So I think the noise at this cable may not be related. The truck was making the noise before I put it on the lift, but couldn't hear it once it wasn't weight bearing. However, I thought I heard something and that's when I got the stethoscope and located it at the cable. Well I just took a closer look to inspect the front drive shaft. The grease fitting on the shaft just barely strikes the cable, so that what I think I heard with the stethoscope. However, I don't believe that is the ticking noise while driving. Rocking the shaft back and forth I could hear a little something in the transfer case, but continuing to move it wouldn't make any noise, but then again it's done doing it right now while driving anyway.
