Fuel MPG in the 6.0 engine?

Gotta find the sweet spot...  I have found Cruise on my 3500 likes 75-76 MPH....  Last week I averaged 17.5 going into work about an hour drive all highway.  But my usual is 13-15 I'd say.

I ran 3 weeks on 87 since it went to 2.41 gallon. Best i saw hwy was 15/16 and on the street was maybe 10/11(red light every 100ft or so fkn hate it). Avg was best 10mpg. went back to using e85 at 1.75 i will get avg of 7 to8 and on the hwy i can see 12/13.

I would not consider using e85 as there are many reports/complaints about it eating up all seals it touches in your engine.  (IF) thats true it is worth saving 1.00 a gallon?  Not in my book....  But Good luck.

It must have been used in vehicles older than 1999 then. I've been running it in my 2002 5.3 for the past three years with no issues and it isn't a flex fuel vehicle.

Well thats great news I guess....  Maybe I'm just an O'l fart that refuses to accept the new an changing world.  I traded a 2016 Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3 I absolutely lived for a 2015 3500 which I'm growing to love only because of the towing specs....   My 1500 was getting 20-23 highway and was an amazing truck.  I bought the 3500 and knew the MPG's would kill me to even calculate but one either accepts it or ya don't.  My only complaint is the lights on the 3500...   I hope to do the swap when Money permits.

Well thats great news I guess....  Maybe I'm just an O'l fart that refuses to accept the new an changing world.  I traded a 2016 Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3 I absolutely lived for a 2015 3500 which I'm growing to love only because of the towing specs....   My 1500 was getting 20-23 highway and was an amazing truck.  I bought the 3500 and knew the MPG's would kill me to even calculate but one either accepts it or ya don't.  My only complaint is the lights on the 3500...   I hope to do the swap when Money permits.

I traded my 14 5.3 for my current 15 6.0 2500. Man i miss the fuel mileage, but need to tow 11k lbs and a tick over 2klbs payload.

don’t sweat it.  in a 1500 you basically lose in depreciation what you save in gas:

if you think about what you get - full floater, stronger trans, e rated tires, mechanical fan, heavy duty cooling, better ground clearance, better brakes, heavier frame, stronger front axle, i mean the list goes on for days.  it is absolutely nuts that an hd truck costs about the same as a comparable 1500.  absolutely nuts. 

 

it’s like selling prime rib and a cheeseburger at the same price, and 90% of people buy the cheeseburger.

100%, baffled my mind just as much as with todays technology they cant get better mpg out of the gas 6.0

That is about in line with what I get on E85.  My overall average on the stuff is in the 10-11 mpg range.  I live rural, so not a lot of city driving, but a lot of gravel roads and such.  Probably because I really don't experience a lot of stop and go nonsense makes a difference.

That could have been true in the last century, but all vehicles are made up of components that take ethanol into account.  And if the vehicle is rated for flex fuel, even more so.  I am still waiting to see real objective evidence of the eating up seals and ruining auto engines.  That can be  true when it comes to open fuel systems like chain saws, portable generators, lawn mowers, outboard marine engines, etc.  There is a lot of evidence of folks using E85 only for up to 100,000 miles and the engine and components were as good or better than gasoline only.   Over at a Camaro forum, a guy ran it in his car for 60,000 miles, and tore the motor down to beef it up for supercharging purposes and posted pictures of the internals.  Man, that was one clean motor.  

 

But my 2015 2500 has spent the majority of it's life on E85.  If there was going to be an issue, it would have surfaced by now.  I guess having used various blends of ethanol for almost 40 years, all the internet folklore about how bad it is does not resonate with me.  I do not suffer from an enlarged paranoia gland. So I will take advantage of the retail pump pricing and use the stuff.

Yeah, it is strange for sure.  But it is hard when the vehicle being moved has the aerodynamics of a brick.

The stop and go Is herendous. Just about every 100ft is a dam red light. Wastes time and gas, 50% of my driving is stop n go
