Converting Automatic to Manual transmission

So I've been trying to find a later model 2500 with a manual transmission and I'm finding they are very hard to find. I found one with all the characteristics I was looking for including the manual transmission and when I went to look at it, I found it was run like a rented mule. Trashed, in other words. Automatics are all over the place and easy to find. So I'm wondering if it might actually be easier to get what I'm looking for and change the transmission over to the manual. On first glance, it seems like you've just got to create a hole for the shift lever and then mount up the clutch pedal and system. I'm guessing my first glace evaluation is horribly underestimated so I just thought I'd ask here in case anyone has attempted this type of feat and knows better.

Thanks for any thoughts....

Horriblly underestimated is not far off. It would take a ton of work. You would be much better off getting an automatic and just living with it or searching really hard for a manual. To convert it, I believe you would need to reprogram the computer, get a new yoke for the driveshaft, as well as any 4x4 conversion stuff if you get a 4x4. Definitely not worth it imo
