Is a dual exhaust straight out the back a problem for a trailer?

Ok. I'm looking at doing some exhaust work on my truck and I'm likely going to do a single muffler system with a single in and dual out. A local muffler shop warned me that if I tow a trailer, having the pipes pointed directly out the back could be a problem...

Does anyone here have a similar set up and tow? What are your experiences?

What are your thoughts on this?

Next up to decide which muffler to get.... lol

I can't imagine what kind of problem he is thinking of. Couldn't be soot on the trailer since you're not driving an old diesel. Heat? Not an issue since the exhaust tip is so far away from the trailer that any heat would have dissipated. I used to drive big rigs and the only issue we had with the older trucks was getting a little soot build-up on the top corner of the trailer, nothing else. And that exhaust was pretty close to the trailer with some of your city rigs.

All that to say, I think he's full of hot air.

Drone.....

I'd put it out the side at 45's if you're worried about it.

I was somewhat loud on my 1990, but no louder than the wind noise and tires. My main issue with it was the exhaust humidity would draft behind the pickup and make dust stick.

I have heard of this causeing loud exhaust drone at highway speed if you are pulling an enclosed trailer or a camper.

Ya drone is really the only issue I could think of too.... maybe he does have too much hot air LOL

haha...I didn't think of the dust issue with the humidity from the exhaust.. The only trailers I tow on a regular basis are a snowmobile and seadoo trailer.

On top of what has been said I would ask how long is the tongue, what kind of trailer, what muffler you using?

Odd as it may sound I have found mechanics to be TERRIBLE to get modification advise from.

I agree. Seeing as my trailers are just for snowmobiles and seadoos...not a 26' house trailer....I don't see it being an issue.

It's not an issue. My old ram exhaust was straight out the back and I haul a 16' enclosed trailer as well. No problems.

I use a Magnaflow since it is more quiet that a flowmaster (less drone by far) and the Magnaflow is straight through meanwhile a flowmaster is a mouse/cheese hunt... (a maze in a muffler)

The Magnaflow is lifetime as well... a flowmaster is three years with no rust out guarantee... that's their only warranty, and they rust out so there is really no warranty.
